News Stipe lands full-time job with fire department

I like it when I can add to my ignore list. Seriously. It's always good to cut toxicity out of one's life.

These days being in the military will give you a lot less PTSD than a firefighter/EMT job.
not in his day. patrolling the korangal valley in afghanistan circa 2009-2010. if you wanna know the kind of shit he went through, watch ‘taking fire’ it’s a discovery channel documentary about him and his crew.

Serving in Afghanistan, yeah. But most military members even back then were not serving in Afghanistan. These days, being in the military is just a way for guys to get just enough training to claim they're a badass and get most people to believe it. If an actual war ever broke out again, half of America's military would either refuse to fight or join the enemy.

There’s quite a bit of dudes in my trade(union sprinkler fitter / fire protection) that are also firemen. On average they work like 80 something days a year.

{<huh}

i hate cops and i hate the military, period, but this is a reach. you’d be surprised how steadfast the average soldier’s belief is, whether it be out of stupidity, delusion, or the perception of honor.

Kind of odd, for me, to think of a “full time” job as a fire fighter. Are there that many local fires to be put out?

in rural mountains where I am a house fire makes the 8 o clock news….

They are effectively first responders (wnything from a car accident to a suicide attempt etc etc)

It isnt just fires they respond to.

Yes, but if you understand how they manipulate the system, you'll see it's very little actual OT worked. First, they switch their shifts with each other, so instead of having a day or two off between shifts, they work three or four straight. That way, they get paid OT for the majority of the days they work even though they aren't working a single extra shift.
There's more, but you get the idea.
Sherrifs do the same thing.
We, the people, are getting scammed.
If they shift swap someone is working the shift though?? If an A shift guy works B C D right after his shift is over he worked 96 hrs straight, or am I missing something. Genuinely curious how that works
Shift swap is usually to work 2 straight then have 6 days off but no cheating system that way

Huge misconception that changed maybe 10 years ago.

Use to be not as busy but 95% of cities now a days have EMS (ambulance) at the fire station so your really busy.

Even if your working the fire truck instead of the box (ambulance) they still send both cars out during serious 911 calls.

Back in the day you could get a job where your only working the truck but that's not the case, your also a paramedic
I envy cities that don’t run Medicals

Imagine losing the only two interesting fighters in your current heavyweight division just because you refuse to pay one man. Lol. Dana is a bitch. Now all thats left to fight are a binch of men nfannou has already knocked out or the man who beat the man who beat ngannou in the most boring fight ever then managed to get DOMINATED by ngannou. Lol.

Haven't seen this posted but can you be full time with a fire department and still train MMA at the top level? Does this indicate he may not be coming back? Any fire fighters out there?

It depends. I am not familiar with Cleveland. However, I do have relatives that were FDNY way back when. They used to be able to work 2 24 hour shifts per week. Many bartended on the side or eventually owned pubs on the side (or if you do that 5/7 days are you technically a pub guy who's a fireman on the side?)

At some point there was a study that showed job injuries in the final 8 hours of a 24 hour shift spiked or something along those lines. I believe they still had the opportunity to work 2 16 hour shifts one week then 3 16 hour shifts the next week.

Fireman in New York are well respected or at least more so than Police. Friends of mine concede they usually cook, workout, play basketball, watch sports, the blazes we see on TV or in the movies are extremely rare. My friend worked years and had only put out car fires (insurance fraud) and garbage can fires. Then he did get that call for the big one and it only takes 1 to change your life and career. Another friend of mine tragically passed away in his 30's fighting a fire. But again you may be able to do an entire camp working 2 days a week and no scary calls those 2 days

Most department have an A B and C shift. Shifts swaps do not have a need for overtime. In fact. The guy that’s off is getting paid and you are going to have him pay you back on a day you’ll need off. FF’s do that if too many people are off. NFPA requires for so many guys on shift at a time and can not go below minimum manning. Don’t listen to what that guy is saying. He really has no idea what he’s talking about.
