Who has the best standup?

It's also hard to throw a punch when your arm is being bent in half the wrong way.

Such is fighting.

Werdum is more versatile, as a striker. Stipe is formidable, especially early, but I think Werdum would take over after some time.

I'd say Stipe has great hands, but the gap between Werdum's kicks and knees compared to Stipe's is a bit bigger. So I'll go Werdum.

Man I feel like every wrestler says this to make themselves feel better
Stipe needs to stay on his feet or he's probably done
And that's a tough task with neo-werdum

I'll be 100% honest here, and you may not like the raw hard truth I'm about to give you:
Werdum would destroy Stipe in a kickboxing match. Even without his greatest weapon, Werdum is the superior fighter. Now add the full arsenal and Stipe is completely outgunned. This fight will be a lopsided beatdown and I am almost convinced everyone picking the firefighter is actually trolling. Because no one can be that dumb.

Stipe probably has better traditional boxing, but I believe Werdum can mix it up better. In reality, this comes down to gas tank, clinch work and if Stipe gasses a bit, can he prevent a submission. Stylistically, this is actually a very intriguing fight.

i don't think either guy has the best standup

but i think Stipe has better standup

It's hard to defend jiu jitsu when your gassed from having your ribs and face kneed elbowed and kicked for 3 rounds see Cain fight for example

It's hard to play cribbage when getting punched in the face. Laundry. Most everything, really.

Werdums striking is years ahead of stipes

We'll know how well the fight is going for either guy based on if we see a couple butt flops and scoots or not.

It's hard to bend someone's feet in half when you're on your hands.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I see Stipe lighting Werdum up if it stays on the feet.

If it hits the ground though, Werdum will be a shark with a fish.

Really looking forward to this one.

It's hard to bend your dick in half if it's hard... FACT!

I'm not really sure the reasoning behind people picking Stipe by early KO. Other than Arlovski and some early career cans he hasn't came out and early KO'ed anybody, especially with the one punch KO that would be pretty much necessary to TKO/KO Werdum. And if you look at common opponents... they both decisioned Roy Nelson, Stipe went to decision with Gonzaga while Werdum TKO'ed him twice, Stipe took out Hunt in the 5th after grounding him, tiring him and maulin him on the ground while Werdum knocked him out in the 2nd. Arlovski obv was early KO'ed by Stipe and took a dec against Werdum 9 years ago.

I think Stipe has a decent chance this fight (tho Im picking Werdum) but the way I foresee him winning is by boxing on the outside and racking up points without overcommitting. If he can use his speed and agility he may be able to steal enough rounds to take the decision. I have a hard time seeing him getting a KO/TKO as Werdum can always just fall to the ground and pull guard to recover and Stipe isn't really a big one hit puncher (from what we've seen in the UFC).

Not a lot of time in the HW division. I think it is not going past the second round. Either one could end it quickly.
