Steve Nelmark

Hackney had good fighting instincts. He was a kenpo student who owned some HVAC businesses, so he didn't have much time to train and there was no real cross-training back then. But he got into a dicey situation when the huge sumo guy started to put his weight on him--then got out of trouble and finished him. And Joe Son almost subbed him but Keith quickly started groin punching him. He also made a pretty good attempt at the first ever "sprawl-n-brawl" style against Royce. Again, no one was teaching that stuff back then outside maybe Luta Livre in Brazil, the Gracies and a few Pancrase fighters in Japan. He was a pretty smart fighter for an A/C repairmen who went to karate class twice a week.
Who do you think would win a hypothetical match back then between Keith and Mark Hall?

Yes the Yarborough fight was impressive because I think had the cage door not opened Keith would have been trapped, Emanuel would have ended up on top as he cornered him early on but the cage door saved Keith imo because even after that Emanuel was able to do some damage so impressive win for Keith. The Joe Son fight surprised me that Son was able to outgrapple Keith at the beginning but really Keith had some advantages in reach and height.

My most impressive moment of Keith was him fighting Royce and doing very well, he actually did damage it's too bad he didn't take a step back during the fight and reset because the flow he had was really good maybe could have kept it up longer. Unfortunately for Keith his last fight was against Ruas and he didn't really get a chance to do anything.

I think I'd pick Hackney over Hall as Keith seemed to find a way to win unless he was fighting the best guys back then like Royce and Ruas. With that said, I recently saw Hall vs. Harold Howard (sometimes confused with Hackney). Hall was supposed to be a karate guy or some kind of striker. However, the announcers said he was a high school wrestler and he promptly took Howard down and pounded him out. Like I said earlier, Hackney was a Kenpo guy and there was virtually no grappling training back then unless you wrestled in school. So that could happen. Whether Keith would find some way to escape, I don't know.

As for Joe Son, I heard on a podcast that he had a friend train with Rickson--then had his friend teach Kimo some BJJ basics. That's why Kimo did surprisingly well against Royce. If true, Joe probably learned a few submissions as well, while Keith didn't know how to escape them besides fighting dirty (which was legal back then).

Thanks for your thoughts on that, the reason I think Hall was decent back then is how easily he beat Howard, he was outweighed and out powered yet destroyed Harold that fight always pissed me off as I was going for Howard it seems every time he got on his back he lost. Hall showed a lot of toughness against Frye at UFC 10 taking all those rib shots, he reminds me of Macias a little, him against Hackney back then would have been fireworks and one thing about Keith is that he doesn't think twice about striking and committing to an attack, ya I'd probably go with Keith as well.

Yes, Tank had incredible power, but some people need to watch the full fight to see Nelmark was already rocked multiple times. It's not like this was the first hit that just randomly put him down. Tank beat the shit out of him before that.

What you mean that Adlan smoked Jones?

Its a joke

Apparently Adlan dropped Jon in practice, possibly a body shot. Adlan trained at Jack/Wink during his UFC time and fucked a few people up from that gym during his stay

Keep in mind, Bones is a guy that always would win in practice so pretty wild a WW was the guy to stop him LoL
