My concern is that our regional conflicts will give way to massive shifts of power internationally. While this may sound conspiratorial, somebody posted a compelling argument that we are ushering in a new age of super powers.

The United States gets the Americas, China gets Asia and Russia gets Europe. That isn't to say that these areas will now fall under the domain of these superpowers, but that there will be a tacit understanding to turn a blind eye to any aggressions made by the United States/Russia/China. If China decides to invade Taiwan, or Russia decides to go beyond the Ukranian borders, the United States will simply let it happen.

Miller's tone in the OP was that this is very much a time of "every man for themselves". This is no longer about protecting global order, this is about serving the best interests of the Americans in positions of power.

Yeah... but it was always going in that direction. Do you think Trump sped up the process? I don't really, I think he put them in check, and they were moving faster prior. There's a reason why China and Russia didn't do much during his first term. You and I should check back in as this term progresses to see how it goes. You make good points.

I think it's the other way around. Trump signed more executive orders in the first year of his current term than in all of his first term, and about 80% of the number Obama signed in 8 years in office.

A new cold war between China and America is inevitable. Russia will be second fiddle to China, basically an inversion of their roles in the previous cold war. Expect China to nab Taiwan and then use Iran to conduct proxy wars in the Middle East to seize southern Iraq, Kuwait, and UAE.
