I actually watched the movie a long time ago when I was a kid, it was pretty good from what I remember. I still look forward to reading the novel though.

As a writer, I think On Writing is one of the best books ever written on the task of creating fiction. Even if you aren't a writer, it's a great read and is much more than the nuts and bolts of writing. I'm not crazy about King personally, but he's just brilliant. If he wrote anything other than horror, he would be universally recognized as one of the greats. The elite literature snobs never gave him his proper due.

I write for a living and this book was a game-changer for me. The way I set up my office, the music I listen to, the time at which I write—all of it is influenced by his recommendations. I haven’t altered my writing routine in 7 or 8 years and that makes it so easy for my brain to quickly transition into writing mode and bang out narrative.

I love that book.

That is literally every Stephen King book I have ever read though. Really great and engaging writing. Shits the bed in the last 10% of the book

It’s as if he does it on purpose. He has great ideas, but shit conclusions.

Funny thing how people see things differently. I thought Franco ruined it and never finished it because of that. I actually really like james franco too he just wasn't working for this imo. I think he did great with The Deuce and The Disaster Artist since then though.

Madness, haha. I thought he portayed such a gentle character. I watched the last episode in bed and had to put the lights back on I was in tears so much. I really like Franco but I thought he was just perfect in that.

Dead Zone casting with Christopher Walken can ram it though. Anyone who has read the book knows how screwed up that was.

Honestly some of the King work I’ve read is more gross then scary, the only work I’ve read that I really didn’t like was one of his short works from I think nightmares and dreamscapes and I can’t think of the title

Well like I said I didnt finish it. Got about half way I think and called it quits. My opinion may have changed, may not have.

The dark tower is his best stuff imo. The stand is worth it. Beyond those i find clive barker to be a more rewarding. King has his moments though and the dark tower is one of the best stories ever.

Hate how they screwed the pouch with the movie. Didn’t mind the casting, just the movie was really underwhelming. Should have made it a series and followed the books.

I think you’re right. Some of his works would probably be considered literary masterpieces if they weren’t horror novels.
