Weak! I'll go 5 because my 9 year old thought the "chickens" were cute!

Ren and Ray are not compelling whatsoever, Snoke was a bust with no further development, and Luke is apparently a coward who outright abandoned everything he seemed to love so much.

Ray's experience with Luke was cringe worthy and lame. I was bored, nonstop one liners and tons of appeal for kids under 13.

Honestly the clone wars cartoon series surpassed episode 8 in story telling. This wasn't for me, I would prefer 1-3 over 8.

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

Yeah, I don't George Lucas writing any more Star Wars movies.

I honestly don't know how you create tension with Kylo Ren as your villain. He got overpowered by a Force Rookie in TFA, then gets outsmarted by a Force Hologram. He doesn't feel like a threat , he is am impulsive Mad Dog that is too easily baited.

Exactly, he’s not menicing and threatinig enough.

If the plan was for him to kill snoke he should t have taken the mask off yet and had trouble with Finn and bested by a Mary Sue twice already.

Vader kept the mask on, kept us in suspense. We didn’t actually see the emporer really until jedi. So that was looking over us too.

Now it’s all out and done basically. All there is left is for Rey to finish Kylo off , and Poe leads some ships to finish off the destroyers. Story done.

That it could have been teleportation we saw and not death.

And I’m sure what ever big reveal abrams had planned got thrown on the cutting room floor.

Teleportation? Then whereever Luke teleported too...he's naked.

Maybe Rey and Ren settle their differences and have teh sex and the force is involved. Could be an interesting scene.

Seriously though, you're preaching to the choir. I will certainly see IX because I'm invested, but there is definitely not a lot of compelling draw for the movie. They stacked it like the odds are horribly against Rey and co. but it does not resonate. It's like trying to convince me Supes died at the end Dawn of Justice.

I thought they will have sex in this movie. I really felt it coming. Actually, I think Rey, and Finn are going to have sex soon and lots of it.

Well you see the status quo, there has to be an upcoming "plot twist" that is unpredictable... But in the end will be of little consequence.

Kylo Ren is easily the worst Sith Lord of all time.

I wish Ray had joined the First Order, now that would have spiced things up a bit.

Way to prove his point. Name 1 male leader in the resistance. Oh thats right, there isnt one. Oh well other than one who gets killed, and one who gets demoted after a major f**k up. Did you see any females in the first order? I sure didnt. (Saying Phasma is laughable as there is literally nothing to suggest her gender other than knowing the person playing the role)

Leia was awesome in the original trilogy, and (humorously) the most accurate person with a blaster in the OT. Mon Mothma was the main leader, which was also fine. This movie just decided to shoehorn females and minorities into every f*cking role to appeal to tumbler sjws who wont even watch it.

Didnt she have the stormtrooper boobie plate, and I think her hip armor were curvy

Ray goes evil, Ren turns back to good. Then the third they try and turn Rey back. Finn sacrifices himself somewhere down the road in the third. Luke has at it with Snoke and dies. Rey and Ren double up in the finale and take him down.

I don't think this is automatically the problem, Lucas wrote the original film as a stand alone piece, it had potential for threads of the story to be expanded but he didn't have a totally clear plan.

The difference here though is that I think the original film was designed very much as that, a stand alone piece, it setup the wider universe but gave a pretty free hand to its sequels in terms of building there own plot. The Force Awakens on the other hand is vastly different to that, its a film that I think it does a much worse job selling its overall setting and instead focuses on introducing a collection of mysterys. Its basically a film that tied down its sequel to trying to answer the questions it posed yet I think now its pretty clear Abrams never had answers to those questions planned out. People warned that this was Lost mk2 and I think that's very much come to pass, Abrams using cheap mystery's he has no answer to instead of actually writing good drama/characters.

As I feared as well this film was also very much tied down to the tone Abrams established in TFA which really doesn't suit Starwars at all for me, its like a very vague nostalgia memory of the series filtered though the blandest of modern clichés.(with none of the inspired wit of stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor Ragnarok). Given that these films are feeding on anti prequel feeling I think its ironic that actually there much close to the prequels in tone with there endless "roger roger"ing droids and the like.

Not that Johnson shouldn't take some of the blame for this but for me this film demonstrates what a massive mistake(at least artistically although I suspect it will feed into declining returns) Disney made firing Arndt for needing time to plan a scipt and instead hiring Abrams to rush something out quickly. The reality is great work takes long term planning from talent people, Lucas and other writers took years on the originals, Peter Jackson took years adpating Lord of the Rings, etc

That’s not exactly true, lucas had the whole story in his head without all the details.

It was too damn long for a movie and started with the one with the best chance of doing well enough on its own.

He messed up a lot but had good people reigning his ass in at times but the story was there.

The force awakens has many many of the same mysteries in it that a new hope had.

Who is the emporer/snoke
Who is Kylo/vader(this was answered however)

Luke’s father was basically no one of importance a spice trader or some shit. We learn from Obi wan his father was a Jedi, but exaclty who and why or how did vader kill him

Rey family unanswered, then the Force dream with Obi wan talking, shit there’s more to her just like with Luke (Rian said f u! No there’s not)

What do the rebels do now that the Death Star/Starkiller base is blown up? How do they defeat Kylo/vader and snoke/emperor.

So many similarities it’s uncanny.

They Can Do get out the Star Wars Version as Rey Reveals her parents to Finn, then Poe saves his ass before they take his eyes.

I would have rather watched that.

Can someone that actually liked this movie explain what they feel is worth looking forward to in the next movie?

To me there’s nothing compelling for me to see Episode IX because Han, Luke and Carrie Fisher are all dead, and there’s no mysteries to answer, or cliffhangers resolve.

Rey will defeat Ren again, and Poe and Finn will defeat the First Order again. What’s there to look forward to?
Don't you want to see what the new Death Star looks like or how big their triangle ship can get?

No, it would need much more than that.

I don't think so. I think most of the negative reviews would go away. People wanted to see her trained by Luke. People would forgive much more if hat actually happened

A lot of people actually ragged on Rogue One last year for being too serious but that film is much closer to the originals in tone.

Lucasfilm was purchased with everything else George owned like ILM and they churned out the first movie rather quickly.

I think an overall outline with all three writers involved wouldve made for a much more cohesive vision

Why do people love rogue one so much as this new "standard" of Star Wars movies.

Yeah sure the last 30-40 minutes were great but there was literally ZERO character development in this movie. The characters were flatter than Mike Pences sex appeal

I want good writing and characters. The special effects and action only enhance the characters. Not the other way around
I enjoyed the bleakness of it and like the characters, despite their lack of development. In fact I think it should have been even darker in tone. It's very flawed but less cartoony and silly than the other movies outside the OT, and I appreciate that it takes itself seriously (though there are corny moments). If it was edited better I think it'd be fantastic, but as is it's very flawed however rewatchable to me and added some depth to the Rebellion. I cared more about that droid dying than anyone in any of the movies outside the OT.

The final act doesn't make up for how painfully disjointed the rest of the movie is, but my god, it's fantastic. A space battle rivaling ROTJ. I will watch TLJ at least one more time, but Rogue One is the only movie since the OT that I know I'll rewatch here-and-there.

George Lucas is great for ideas and vision, and bless his heart for the OT, but he needs other, very talented people at the reins. I don't think it's a coincidence that the two best movies of them all - the original and TESB - are the ones he had the least control over.

You can make it dark with interesting characters as well. Rogue One had no interesting charters to speak of outside the blind Asian guy. Who's backstory was 3 seconds long

- underwhelming answers to questions from TFA.

- underwhelming use of Luke. (We've waited 30 years to be reunited with our childhood hero only to watch him mope on an island and then fade away because of reasons)

- A mysterious, and powerful villan with interesting scars that tease of a great back story...wasted without any answers. And nor would I care who he was now anyways.

- A ridiculous plot about gas and the world's slowest chase scene in sci fi history.

- A boring and needlessly lengthy plot on a casino world which felt like it belonged in the prequels.

- Merchadise thrown into my face that absolutely served no purpose to the plot. (at least the ewoks DID something)

- This movie has left me with very little ambition or drive to see the 9th installment.

- There are now more bad Star Wars movies then good.
