STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Will Begin Filming This Month

A galaxy far, far away is returning to the Irish island of Skellig Michael, with local authorities approving future production for a Star Wars feature. The Irish government announced Thursday that permission has been granted for Lucasfilm to return to the historical location, which has been a protected UNESCO world heritage site since 1996, provided no damage comes to the island's ecology or bird life. (Ecologists and specialist staff from the country's National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the National Monuments Service will be on site during shooting to ensure that is the case.)

"Sceilg Mhichil (Skellig Michael) is one of our most dramatic and beautiful islands and it is very easy to understand why its stunning scenery has caught the attention of the makers of one of the world's biggest film franchises," said government official Heather Humphreys in a statement. "The return of Star Wars to Sceilg Mhichil is another win for Ireland and the Irish film industry, which is a growing and dynamic sector of our economy."

Humphreys added: "Specialist staff from my Department have been in discussions with Lucasfilm since March of this year in relation to a limited amount of filming, expected to last two to four days."

The agreement, initially reported by RTE, will allow Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII to follow this December's Star Wars: The Force Awakens in using the location. J.J. Abrams's revival of the space opera franchise filmed there last year.

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII Will Begin Filming This Month in Ireland

What was previously filmed there?

From Star Wars Wiki: On July 29, 2014, filming took place over three days at Skellig Michael island off the coast of County Kerry in Ireland with a cast including Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley.

The black dude always has a damn FAUX face in every single trailer (the original first teaser and later in the actual trailer) and then still has it when he is holding the light saber.

Gotta admit that dude is not what I was hoping for from our new hero; and yes I know I am jumping the gun here from just a few shots of him but his face already got to me

Not gonna hate though, I love Star Wars and will watch the movie with an open mind. I'm really excited and can't wait for a new trailer to arrive

Impressive location. Luke's home perhaps...

I said that when the 1st trailer came out. If he is the lead he is not that attractive to play a lead and I'm not ghay. Just calling it out. Compare him to say black panther or falcon. It's not even close.

Horrible selection if the lead character

I have to agree with you. He kind of looks like a nerdy guy who is completly out of his league against the likes of the empire and Kylo Ren. Maybe in later episode they will beef him up by giving him a gnarly beard and a menacing jedi robe.

Remember, Luke in a New Hope was a complete dweeb who was "a little short to be a storm trooper". ;)

just heard the joke if JJ ABrams messes this up, he'll be forever known as Jar Jar Abrams.

just the thing i wanted to say. Give him time...

I know six year olds (literally, six years old) who have literally said while watching the movie (and I quote) "How is Jar-Jar a general? He's so clumsy and isn't very smart." A six year old. Fucking kindergardeners don't buy Jar-Jar.

That fuckin' doof George.... =(

Well to be frank, the original trilogy had freakin' ewoks. Ewoks. The "comical" characters were always present (even the C3PO and R2D2 were a bit too much for me), it's just that they went full retard with Jar Jar.

Yea, and when they showed him with the light saber, I was like wtf...dude looks so fucking out of his element. When I heard Oscar Issac was cast I thought he was gonna be the lead, not the dude we ended up getting (and has nothing to do with him being black)

Empire was so dark they needed a bit of light-heartedness in Return.

The Ewoks were the piece that the Empire hadn't predicted, and it made sense, imo. Cute little furballs using primitive weapons against Storm Troopers!? I'd laugh if I was Emperor Palestine and someone suggested my troops had to worry about that kind of crap.

Devon Unveils STAR WARS-Themed Watch with $28,500 Price Tag

The price is strong with this watch. Themed around Darth Vader and released in anticipation of The Force Awakens, Devon watch brand has unveiled a Star Wars watch which has a price tag over $28,500. Why buy a car when you can buy a watch with Tie Fighter wings attached to it?

The watch also features the Imperial crest on its crown and spikes beside it to mimic the switches of Darth Vader's center console which was mounted on his chest. The face of the watch features a constantly moving belt to substitute a seconds hand. There will only be 500 of these Star Wars watches built over the next two years so start saving now.

Ewoks were dumb as fuck, too. They should have kept them as Wookies.

The problem with guys like George is that after a few successes, they completely lose touch with reality, especially what makes kids tick. He thinks he's making things friendly for the kids. The kids don't want to be Ewoks or Jar-Jar. They don't want those action figures. They want the Yoda, Kit Fisto, Obi-Wan toys because in their heads, that's who they're fantasizing about being.

Kit Fisto? Wasn't that the lame as shit jedi that got killed without effort by the Emperor? Or killed by the storm troopers?

IDK. PT, so I don't give a fuck.

Im sure this has already been asked but who are playing the children of han solo/leia and luke skywalker?
If i remember correctly the original book story line was solo/leia had twins and luke has a kid as well. I guess they arent following that so is the english chick playing leias daughter?

Don't care about skin color. It's a new character but maybe he will prove us all wrong with his acting but he's not a lead at all
