Here is a good review for all you Max Landis fans. He makes good points about Rey. I don't agree with him that she is a Mary Sue, but I can see why he thinks that way cause I am not a man child fanboy like some of you all.

True but from the looks of it and based off of what we know about her, she has no former training as a jedi whatsoever.

There's a rumor going around that she was part of Lukes new jedi academy and once kylo went ape shit they wiped her memory and sent her to Jakafuck or w/e. Like I said, we should get a lot more explaining in next few films. If these questions aren't answered then, then I will have the same gripes as most people in this thread, but it's the opening movie of the trilogy, only a fool would expect all the answers in the first movie.

that would be an interesting twist if they decide to go that route. would be down to see it,

Had good trailers before the movie too. That Jungle Book movie looks good to me, loved it when I was a kid. Civil War looks good, X-Men, think we had a trailer for Independence Day as well.

They also played some animated commercial. It was a girl with a snowman that used to put on puppet shadow shows for her as a child. Then she would put the snowman in the fridge to preserve him. As she got older she forgot about him, then one day while busy at work, remembered the good ol' days and digs out the sad, neglected snowman.
He brightens up and puts on a show for her and her daughter with the theme of "Do what you love" or something like that.
Anyone else have that play at their showings? That got me right in the feels, I'm such a softie now in my old age

Then it went straight into the LucasFilm credit and started the movie.

Is it this? http://theinspirationroom.com/daily/2015/lily-and-the-snowman/
Sounds like that was the whole short and only in canada.

They gotta do somethingn, she's the main character, their will be some type of twist for sure, that's why I don't understand the outrage after just the one film. If these questions are still unanswered after ep 9 and she's taking down sith lords with no back story, at that point, I'll say this was a big fuck up just like you and BVG have been adament about. I'm willing to give them time though, since it is a trilogy.

If Luke knows that Ren turned to the dark side, then he's a jerk for going into hiding. He should feel obligated to stop the man he trained from taking over the galaxy. Instead, he's just like, "Whoops, I gave an evil guy the power to take over the galaxy. Man, I'm in soooo much trouble. I'd better hide before my sister finds out."

The only viable reasons for Luke to go into exile, would be

1. If he needed to do it in order to defeat Kylo/Snoke. Like they were such a huge threat that Luke needed to focus on training himself to become even stronger with the force, and that kind of focus required complete isolation.

2. (and this option IMO would be the coolest) If Luke started to feel a strong pull to the dark side, and he worried that he could be turned just like his father was, and like Kylo was. And so we're faced with a Jedi who's not really good enough to beat Snoke, because he's so conflicted internally, but he still trains Rey while he deals with his dark temptation, and he tells her that she'll likely have to kill him when her training is complete because he's losing his will to resist the temptation.

I like number 2 I think Hamill can pull off dark and conflicted.

Saw the movie a second time with some work friends and, to be quite honest with you, I felt a lot more positively about it second time around. Knowing where it was going, I could just sit there and appreciate certain things that maybe I didn't upon initial viewing.

There are still things that bother me, of course. But I do feel it is a solid 8/10. Rey and Finn were quite entertaining to me. Ren was a cool villain and the contrast between his badassness and the sulking, whining young man he reveals himself to be over time was good, given what the character is supposed to be.

The dude you quoted is one of the most unhinged posters on this forum. Might not want to be so desperate to find anyone who can somewhat support you.

The salt is strong with you.

You know, it's literally crazy people that spread this about me. I'm the normal educated guy with kids who gets laid a lot.. The crazies don't like that on the internet. Might want to pay attention to actual posts and not jump on a wagon with a couple crazy people with 5 accounts who follow me around and spread crap. They called me out in the religious thread in the War Room.. As usual, I came in and made the most reasonable, normal, common sense adult post in the thread. Silence. A few people following me around talking crap should really, really not influence anybody.

Also, I'm pretty sure Yoda was talking about Vader turning to the light as their other last hope. Leia was nowhere near at any point being a powerful enough Jedi to do what Luke did. She was never in that position. Vader was the one with the power to bring down the whole Empire. Not Leia. The "other" person, who it WAS predicted would destroy the Sith, that Yoda knew this was the case, who DID in fact do what he was prophesized too, who turned out to be the obvious "other" hope by actually bringing down the Empire, was ANAKIN SKYWALKER. Leia was never stronger than Han.

hmm I like this, man. Never would have thought of it -just always matter-of-factly assumed he was talking about Leia. Even if he is (which likely was the intention) I like your reasoning better. First off, Kenobi knew Leia existed. It's not like he was in the dark and thought Luke was the only Skywalker descendant like us in the audience at the time. But Kenobi would have definitively believed that Anakin was irredeemable so Vader turning back would not have crossed his mind. Yoda likely saw the same thing Luke did- that there was still potential good in Anakin Skywalker.

6.5/10

The movie was decent. I don't think it's the legendary film that people are making it out to be. Those who think so I feel are clouded with nostalgia from the original trilogy.

Future movies will obviously explain how Rey has such advanced combat training and her advanced knowledge of the force so I'm not too upset about that part of the movie. I'm forward to learning more about Supreme Leader Snoke. He looks very sinister. I already hate Kylo Ren. Such a shitty villain.

I'm really smitten with Daisy Ridley. Such a beautiful face. She's not Carrie Fisher "original Star Wars hot" but attractive nevertheless.

No man, I'm pretty sure Anakin/Vadar was who Yoda was talking about. He did, in fact, turn out to be "the other hope," and Yoda AND Obi Wan knew that Anakin was prophesized to do what he did. There was still hope in Anakin, Luke's dad. I actually think it's kind of obvious. Leia was never going to be that high level, we had nothing at that time to make us think that. Anakin turning back to the light was the thing he was talking about. Especially since it happened lol.

Surely Rey knows her parents. They couldn't have dropped her off as an infant.

They showed that flashback when she picked up the lightsabre, looked like she got left on that planet when she was 7 or 8.

It's too bad Carrie Fisher's a basket case, otherwise they could involve her more.

Like what if Luke did train her to reach her full potential with the force, but they did so secretly? Because if people knew she was a Jedi then she'd have a target on her back like Luke does. But she chose to learn the force, but she never liked the whole lightsaber aspect of it, that would be cool. When the time is right, and she's forced to use her powers, she could walk around doing some Jean Grey level psionic stuff.

Ren wasn't fully trained but he was trained. Not only by Luke, but by Snoke too. If he completes his training he will get better but he's not going to make a huge leap forward.

Rey on the other hand is 100% untrained and still ran a train on Ren. If she starts training and makes those monumental beginner gains then there's no way for Ren to catch up. Ren will never beat or even be a threat to Rey ever again. Miss Mary Sue is OP as hell.

He did have a hole blasted in his side from Chewies crossbow launcher thing that one-shots anyone else and he seemed to be losing a lot of blood. I'm expecting him to be kickass in the next film.

Havent seen anyone saying it's a legendary movie, or a classic, but a pretty entertaining Star Wars movie. Pretty much every review I've heard or read have unanimously had criticisms even if they enjoyed it.

All right movie. I gave it a 6/10. They rehash so much of the old Star Wars it was like a reboot without been a actual reboot. I can't wait till they start exploring the expanded and history of the universe.

This is a pretty cool moment from the flash back that I just realized...

While an interesting theory, you guys dont seem to take into account the actual conversation regarding this very topic in RoTJ.

Obi-Wan: "Then the Emperor has already won, you were our only hope..."
Luke: "Yoda spoke of another..."
Obi-Wan: The other he spoke of was your twin sister."
