STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Official Thread v.7 (Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide)

I was watching Boogie's review of the movie and he made the point that the mental battle between Ren and Rey kinda breaks the 4th wall. Just like Ren is worried he'll never be as badass as Vader, Abrams is worried he can't write a villain as good as Vader. I actually think that's kinda funny/clever to just put it out there like that. I'm starting to like the idea of Ren the more time I've had to digest it.

Maybe Luke knew deep down and was all like "giggity"?

A. Luke wasn't as proficient in the force

B. Technically, the Leia as a sister angle was sort of a last minute addition to ROTJ.

B. Technically, the Leah as a sister angle was sort of a last minute addition to ROTJ.

I've heard similar, but didn't Yoda say "there is another" in ESB, after Luke bails to Bespin? Was Leia intended to be force sensitive, but they hadn't work out the family details or was it supposed to be someone else entirely?

edit: the answer

By the time of the original trilogy's release, with audiences having seen the movie's sequel, Return of the Jedi, it seems obvious that Yoda is speaking about Leia. However, at the time that The Empire Strikes Back was written and released, Leia was not meant to be Luke's sister and one potential storyline in George Lucas' earlier notes was that Luke had an unnamed sibling, also undergoing Jedi training, on the opposite side of the galaxy. It is also possible that line was inserted to open up the possibility that Luke may die in his confrontation with Vader in order to add suspense.

Their needs to be a better guideline on what EU stuff will be used and what won't be. They should give us some type of hints at least, people would probably flip if they realized Darth Maul survived the fall in the EU and just randomly showed up in one of the movies.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen. Everything going forward with Abrams is a clean slate unless it's been anointed G-Canon. And even then he has said it'll be more in line with IV,V, and VI, than the prequels.

All you EU folks are assed out while Disney makes Star Wars its own.

"There is another" is a reference to Anakin finally turning against the emporer, which he did. Anakin was always predicted to 'bring balance to the force,' and Yoda knew this. I believe the "there is another" was a reference to Anakin/Vadar turning back to the light. Which he did. Luke was dead. It was Vader that brought down the Emperor.

I think this is a viable explanation when you take all the canon into account, but I don't think they had all this in mind while writing ESB.

Apparently neither was Kylo...lol!

Eh, I watched it not long ago, was most definantly talking about the princess.

He left his training early and he is unstable and emotinal. Considering the context and the point of "the force", the whole emotional part says a lot, which for some reason you don't understand.

Well Obi-Wan explains it pretty cut & dry in ROTJ that they were talking about Leia, but it looks like they didn't write her as a sister until after ESB was a wrap. They made the new storyline fit "there is another" after the fact, which makes the line kinda interesting since it could've gone in a completely different direction. Though I think Luke using the force to call out to Leia was originally intended to be a one-way transmission, it easily justifies Leia being force sensitive in ROTJ.

Clone wars cgi, rebels, new marvel comics. And all novels released after Disney bought it are Canon. Old republic stuff is considered "legends" but as it is the past it is considered true till otherwise noted. ALL other EU material is considered non canon. However if something happens in canon but not explained, till is explained in canon IMO it falls under EU explanation where applicable.

Darth Vader shaking hands and being nice? :)

I've always respected C3PO for cockblocking Luke & Leia. Good thing this didn't make it into the movie.

I get the angle he was going for that you are all screaming...he's hurt, he's emotional...blah blah

bad direction to go with that character as regardless, in the end...we saw a cry baby sith wanna be get his ass kicked.

there is no amount of horse meat he can consume that's gonna make me see him as anything more than a cry baby sith wanna be who got his ass kicked.

That's really confusing and I don't want to put that much effort into it.

No no no bro, you just don't understand what was going on in that scene like Dizzy does!

lol

She could have blown up the starkiller planet with her mind and he'd be like "wow man that's deep shit! I get it!"
The dude you quoted is one of the most unhinged posters on this forum. Might not want to be so desperate to find anyone who can somewhat support you.

The salt is strong with you.
