STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Official Thread v.7 (Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide)

I try not to draw conclusions from that scene, because Abrams has shown a profound lack of understanding about the scale of interplanetary and interstellar space. The destruction of the Hosnian System shouldn’t have been visible from Takonada, even if it was the next system over.

And of one looks at the map, the distance between Takonada and the Hosnian System is around ¼ of the diameter of the galaxy!

It was built on a planet, so it’s anyone’s guess what degree of mobility that thing had when it came to aiming.

Probably for the same reason Han was able to get the drop on Vader during the trench run to destroy the first Death Star. He was completely focused on something else, both with his regular senses and the Force.

The haircut is an unfortunate necessity to hide his freakishly ginormous ears.

Clearly they were seen as a real threat if there was a resistance hiding from them and trying to stop them.

Skills with a staff doesn't automatically = skills with a lightsaber.

I don't see Ren as having tons and tons of fighting experience, but the fact is, he has SOME experience with both the force and a lightsaber, and that's more than Rey can say. By that point, if you go off the timeline stated in the film, Kylo had started training in the ways of the force YEARS prior to the start of the film.

As far as the lightsaber, there was no indication she got any HP from it during the fight. In ANH, we clearly heard Obi Wan encouraging Luke.

Skills puttin around Tatooine on land speeders shouldn't automatically = GOAT x wing skills against Vader while in your first dog fight. But it did ANH. Cuz the force bro.

Rens experience is not even in the same ballpark as Vaders. Vader had decades and real fights against other Jedi. Yet Vader without being blasted first still can't stop Luke, gets caught off guard by a non force user, wrecks, and fails his mission.

You're giving ANH a nostalgia pass while railing against TFA for its less experience villain failing his mission JUST like Vader did. Either that or you can't recognize plot devices well.

Ben reminding Luke to use the force counts in your book but Luke's saber literally giving Rey force insight just by touch in earlier in the film, then flying past Ren into her hand during the battle didn't remind her at all to use the force in the fight....ok. You're realizing both scenes structure are so similar you're turning to semantics and not convincing there either

Awesome idea...but a hard sell. Kids everywhere are now attached to our new female Luke.
The kids can bite me. I hope they cry when she gets her hand cut off by Luke in episode VIII: The Empire Strikes Back One More Again, Cept This Time the Kid is Bad and the Father Is Good.
Rae/Rey/Rei turning or being tempted to turn would make sense as she is like Luke, a late bloomer, not trained as a child (as far as we know anyway). That plus her emotions for Fin gives a powerful sith the openings they would need to get their hooks in. It's a cool plot twist to consider, even though I agree it isn't likely to happen.

Luke spent countless days flying through Beggars Canyon in his T-16 Skyhopper shooting womp rats; it's mentioned in the movie, and moreso in the ANH novelization (IIRC, been years since I read the novel). He didn't just drive a landspeeder around Tattooine.

latest

Lol cmon man. Shooting womp rats is good prep for evading a million tie fighters and turrets + Vader who is much stronger then Ren. I mean womp rats fly ships and shoot back right. Perfect dog fight prep.

But having fought off other scavengers in hand to hand growing up...not good enough prep for fighting a way weaker than Vader dark side baddie with a blaster hole in his ribs in hand to hand combat.

Great point.

And you are making wayyy to much out of it. He barely took a fuckin knee when he got shot. And was he gushing blood? No. It was a slight blood spot and Ren still showcased the ability to fulling pick up Rei at the start and slam her into a tree some 40 feet away, knocking her out.

Outside of him punching his wound for god knows whatever reason, he wasn't hampered by it at all. The way you are trying to sell this shit like he had a 5 inch hole blasted into his side...lol.

That simply wasn't the case. It's more a case of lack of continuity. Since Sith or Jedi don't typically weigh more than anyone else, he should have been blasted clean off the bridge...dead. As that bullet would have blasted away most of the left side of his hip.

So please...stop trying to oversell the wound. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't that bad because JJ decided to nerf the crossbow for that scene because director's prerogative.

It's actually pretty idiotic that he made a point to showcase how powerful it was in that one scene Han shot with it. As there are sever other moments in the film he shoots even regular storm troopers and they don't go flying away in a glorious explosion...instead it looks like a regular blaster shot.

So he fucks up on continuity with that thing all over the place....

...or all those other people ALSO had the force, because god knows stormtrooper training seems to be the shizzle now.

I felt like he was doing it to make himself more angry.

LOL! "Star Wars episode VIII: The Empire Strikes Back One More Again"

I love it!

Is Rey at least 18? Cause she was hot otherwise nevermind

So as I wait out this cold/flu to go see the movie. I keep hearing one thing.

Star Wars Fanboys: The story has so many holes, but it's still worth watching.

Casual Non-Fans: The story is the same as IV, but still worth watching.

Seems to me that the movie was damned if it did and damned if it didn't, but did it in a way worth watching.

So at the end of the day, were you entertained or not? If so, see you at VIII. If not, don't buy a ticket to the next movie.

It really is that simple.

It was entertaining as fuck and everyone that I've talked to IRL has said the same thing, fan-boy or not. The Internet is the only place you'll see this level of nit-picking.

Probably for the same reason Han was able to get the drop on Vader during the trench run to destroy the first Death Star. He was completely focused on something else, both with his regular senses and the Force.

I addressed that. He was probably pretty distracted - and made weak - by all the blood he was losing from the hole in his side.

Awesome info, agree with everything you said

Except the map itself might be amended to clear up any confusion. Usually they change the EU stuff to conform to what we've seen in the movies and not the other way around. I mean, for Starkiller Base to have even landed that shot on Hosnian Prime... it was QUICK. Like FIRE and BAM halfway across the galaxy three planets are Aldreaan'd.

As for the Starkiller base, I suppose it would have had to be rather mobile in order to find new stars to drain? Otherwise you'd have to build a new one every time you want to fire it. Which tbh I suppose would be worth it but I dunno, it's not quite a decisive, game changing weapon if that's the case.

Hell, it wasn't much of a game changer anyway TBH. The First Order really needs a larger fleet of ships.

Oh I loved that he was very quiet as well. I just found the final sword fight to be a bit too mute. I like it when their's trash talking or evil laughing or something to help the action along. Maybe ben and qui gon could have talked strat back and forth or something, i dunno...

The best moment in the entire movie was when maul was trapped in between force fields and opted to glare and pace back and forth like a caged lion.

Thought that was pretty cool.

Maul was damn awesome - everything that kylo is not.
