STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Official Thread v.7 (Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide)

He brought nothing but superficiality to the role of a villain. He looked cool and that was literally it, completely vapid. A perfect analogy for what the prequels were.

I'm very thankful that Abrams did not take Ren in this direction. Like I said in the previous thread, we now have a villain with some character development. You're so focused on the surface side of things. This was not at all a waste of a movie. We now have questions that we can see fleshed out in the sequels. It did its job as an opening act.

You don't have a villain, you have a pussy with teen ankst and zero mystery.

That's what you now have.

And don't be surprised if JJ sticks on some borg implants to showcase that he's now uber teen ankst in the sequel.

I liked the movie, Hank. But it's far from perfect. But all I wanted was a movie that was better than the prequels, and I got that. And while it's smashing all box office records, that's not indicative of anything...except that it's probably the most recognized movie brand out there, and it was marketed extremely well.

Because it's not even the best Star Wars movie for christ sake.
It's also a huge critical success as well. 95% on RT with an 8.3 aggregate.

Angst, Mr. President.

Let me ask ya a question...was it better than 4,5,6? Is it the best star wars movie ever?

I need to give it some more viewings before I decide where it belongs in the series.

Right now I have it below the original trilogy, above the prequels. I might put it at least on par with Jedi.

It's definitely a good movie though and worthy of carrying the Star Wars name.

The point was that it is not the perfection the roller coaster of marketing is trying to sell you that it is. I absolutely believe that initial ratings of heavily marketed movies is purchased on rotten tomatoes...I'd wager after the shit settles down, it will probably balance out at mid to low 8's. It's definitely not a fuckin 95 percent movie.

95% is how many critics gave it a positive rating. The aggregate score of those positive reviews is 8.3 right now which I think is fair.

8.3 is much closer to the reality I'd agree with. It's a fun movie. The falcon bits were fun, had some nice funny moments (although I don't think stormtroopers should be making me laugh, as they are suppose to be this masked militia that I'm not suppose to sympathize with...)

I just don't like how they wrecked Ren. Great potential for the first half, turned him into a complete pussy for the second half.

Who care about modern critics anyway?

A lot of them are praising the MOVIE DIVERSITY instead of focusing on what matters.

Sorry, a movie with Darth Bieber is not a good movie. I dont want my villain to throw temper tantrums and be "in training", i want him to be a fucking badass.

Where's Sherdog's "dislike" button?
Just like and then unlike, that'll show em.

There is no chance in hell Rei turns evil. They gave absolutely no indication that she would do that, and while it would bring the threat level up again because Rei > Ren...it just wouldn't make sense.
If she loves Fin she could be turned by snoke-dog.

Awesome idea...but a hard sell. Kids everywhere are now attached to our new female Luke.

That's not how RT works though. 95% of critics liked it, doesn't mean it's a 95% movie.

Average Rating: 8.3/10 - is the one you're looking for

Yeah I got that...scroll up.

So as I wait out this cold/flu to go see the movie. I keep hearing one thing.

Star Wars Fanboys: The story has so many holes, but it's still worth watching.

Casual Non-Fans: The story is the same as IV, but still worth watching.

Seems to me that the movie was damned if it did and damned if it didn't, but did it in a way worth watching.

So at the end of the day, were you entertained or not? If so, see you at VIII. If not, don't buy a ticket to the next movie.

It really is that simple.

Makes sense. So, perhaps this doesn't matter, but Takonada, where Maz Kanata lives, was within eyeshot of the planets that Starkiller base blew up. So the fact that the New Order showed up in force in Takonada and had to be repulsed by the Resistance and not The Republic itself is interesting.

I try not to draw conclusions from that scene, because Abrams has shown a profound lack of understanding about the scale of interplanetary and interstellar space. The destruction of the Hosnian System shouldn’t have been visible from Takonada, even if it was the next system over.

And of one looks at the map, the distance between Takonada and the Hosnian System is around ¼ of the diameter of the galaxy!

I expect a full on war in the next movie based on the events of this one as well. Do you know if the Starkiller Base could change its orbit and move around?

It was built on a planet, so it’s anyone’s guess what degree of mobility that thing had when it came to aiming.

Why is it unbelievable that Rey could beat the uber powerful Kylo with a hole in his side, but no one is questioning full-health Kylo getting blasted from 300 yards by Chewy? Guy stopped a blaster bolt mid-air, shot from a sniper he didn't know was there. But he's facing Chewy's direction and still gets clipped?

Probably for the same reason Han was able to get the drop on Vader during the trench run to destroy the first Death Star. He was completely focused on something else, both with his regular senses and the Force.

Emo? I thought they were going for the '70s shag cut, just like in the OT and Anakin in the PT.

The haircut is an unfortunate necessity to hide his freakishly ginormous ears.
