Emo Ren was a disaster in my opinion. We had enough of the emo crap with Anakin. I hope they can turn it around in the next film.

I don't care that he was shot in the stomach, none of that matters going forward...I've still got a visual now of our main antagonist looking like a bitch.

Then that's on you, and no one cares about your thoughts.

1. He took what would regularly be a kill shot before the lightsaber battle so was basically at like 50% health bar
2. Just killed his dad

3. He wasn't trying to kill Rey

That lightsaber battle was beautiful to watch. Stop complaining.

Yeah people are really underestimating Ren's wound. Chewie's crossbow not only killed people but it sent them flying through the air with massive holes in their bodies. Ren had to have been seriously injured and if he wasn't strong in the force he would have been incapacitated at best and dead at the worst.

There is no chance in hell Rei turns evil. They gave absolutely no indication that she would do that, and while it would bring the threat level up again because Rei > Ren...it just wouldn't make sense.

Seeing this in the first movie is a downer going forward.

We need a new god damn villain to up the threat level...AGAIN.
You're still on this shit? Haha

The actual antagonist has already been introduced. It's clear as fucking day that Ren was not it.

I'll ask again, you thought Darth Maul was a great villain, didn't you?

It's seriously stunning that this is still going over people's heads.

Ronda, Travis and Marina went to see The Force Awakens, dressed up. From Ronda's instagram, Ronda is the stormtrooper

To switch gears here, it's really too bad the Starkiller base got destroyed. With all its hype, it sure jobbed like a mofo. Not to mention I never got the vibe that it was meaner, nastier, or scarier than the Death Star. The thing should have lasted across the whole trilogy to really emphasize how great it was. As is.... gay.

Well it's certainly a good thing they dressed him all up in bad assery, gave him a cool new looking broadsword - light saber, and wasted half the movie building up his force powers and anger issues then huh?

Now that we are certain he ISN'T the antagonist, and it's just a 30 second hologram...we've just wasted yet another movie building up an evil guy only to waste him away to ankst anti hero role.

sweet!

Did I like Darth Maul? I thought he was awesome. I would have liked to have had him chirp more while fighting ben and Qui Gon...but he was a decent, powerful, cool looking character with a bad ass light saber who was once again, wasted away in the first movie.

Was hoping to have learned more about him in the second film much like we did Vader.

I loved that Maul hardly ever spoke, but he definitely should have been the main villain (under the Emperor) of the entire trilogy. Maul > Dooku, Grevous, Jango, etc. In fact, he was probably the single best thing about the entire PT. And George fucking wasted him.

Oh I loved that he was very quiet as well. I just found the final sword fight to be a bit too mute. I like it when their's trash talking or evil laughing or something to help the action along. Maybe ben and qui gon could have talked strat back and forth or something, i dunno...

The best moment in the entire movie was when maul was trapped in between force fields and opted to glare and pace back and forth like a caged lion.

Thought that was pretty cool.

I wonder if there's any chance Darth Maul could return in VIII or IX? Now that would be something awesome to see.

And you are making wayyy to much out of it. He barely took a fuckin knee when he got shot. And was he gushing blood? No. It was a slight blood spot and Ren still showcased the ability to fulling pick up Rei at the start and slam her into a tree some 40 feet away, knocking her out.

Outside of him punching his wound for god knows whatever reason, he wasn't hampered by it at all. The way you are trying to sell this shit like he had a 5 inch hole blasted into his side...lol.

That simply wasn't the case. It's more a case of lack of continuity. Since Sith or Jedi don't typically weigh more than anyone else, he should have been blasted clean off the bridge...dead. As that bullet would have blasted away most of the left side of his hip.

So please...stop trying to oversell the wound. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't that bad because JJ decided to nerf the crossbow for that scene because director's prerogative.

It's actually pretty idiotic that he made a point to showcase how powerful it was in that one scene Han shot with it. As there are sever other moments in the film he shoots even regular storm troopers and they don't go flying away in a glorious explosion...instead it looks like a regular blaster shot.

So he fucks up on continuity with that thing all over the place....

...or all those other people ALSO had the force, because god knows stormtrooper training seems to be the shizzle now.

Ah man, that's retarded. But they could just say he switch them out for a regular pair of metal legs or something.

I don't know if this has been posted because the thread is mostly a mash of people who hated it or haven't seen it continuing to say the same things over and over (this always happens when a movie is #1 in the world, people love to be anti-whatever).

I was hoping this would be who Snoke was, and after seeing these it helps enforce that.

He brought nothing but superficiality to the role of a villain. He looked cool and that was literally it, completely vapid. A perfect analogy for what the prequels were.

I'm very thankful that Abrams did not take Ren in this direction. Like I said in the previous thread, we now have a villain with some character development. You're so focused on the surface side of things. This was not at all a waste of a movie. We now have questions that we can see fleshed out in the sequels. It did its job as an opening act.

I liked the movie, Hank. But it's far from perfect. But all I wanted was a movie that was better than the prequels, and I got that. And while it's smashing all box office records, that's not indicative of anything...except that it's probably the most recognized movie brand out there, and it was marketed extremely well.

Because it's not even the best Star Wars movie for christ sake.
