Star Wars History Literature

I knew a guy who worked at Lucas Arts and he said that the reason the first three were so good is that George was surrounded by guiding mentors in Spielberg, I think, and others.

Then Star Wars essentially became something he had no obligation to- he was surrounded by yes-men.
This is correct. The best movie of the bunch, Empire, is the one Lucas has the least personal involvement on. That says a lot. Director Irvin Kershner and producer Gary Kurtz made that movie as good as it was.
So exactly what did the wipe out?
All of the novels, comic books, and games from before the disney purchase, as well as the original clone wars series. All that was left as canon were the 6 movies, and the cgi clone wars series.

I thought you misspelled "cannon."

Interesting, I think there's a lot to be said for it being the first introduction to the force as well. It was all so new & mysterious. They had some great cast & characters as well.

I'm actually a lover of the prequels, & feel like it's one of the most comprehensive plots in cinematic history. it's not perfect but neither is the OT. When I did my first 1 - 6 marathon, I was absolutely shocked at how thin the plot is in the OT. It's really nothing more than "big bad hunting the rebels & vice versa." We got this cool mystical force thing going on, & great characters going on different adventures, so it's still great, but I honestly enjoy the prequels as much as I do the OT for the debth of plot that the prequels bring... as well as fantastic characters & adventures.

I've heard all the gripes... I just don't agree with most of them... or they're petty enough that they aren't major concerns or any big deal.

Read the Zahn trilogy if you can. Im on my 3rd go around of them. Currently mid way through Dark Force Rising.

I always liked reading the Star Wars RPG sourcebooks. I liked all the technical knowledge it provided about everything in the Star Wars universe along with the history. And they made source books for the best novels. Used to play it with friends in Jr. High. still have a few of the books laying around.
