Does anybody know about these?

4K scans of old 35mm Star Wars prints, supposedly they look awesome. The original versions, pre-CGI.

Like for posters? I'd buy that.

Nah, there are still a few 35mm copies of the original movies floating around. There are people quietly working on bringing them back to life to release them as they originally were, but it's a remarkably time consuming process as the film has degraded so a lot of work has to be put into fixing the color. Not to mention they have to do it very quietly, as a full copy of the original films on 35mm are technically owned by Disney, so what they are doing is highly illegal.

They wouldn't have to go through this work, as I am sure Disney would LOVE the income from new HD versions of the original movies unaltered as fans have been clamoring for it for a couple decades now, but sadly according to most sources after GL redid the movies in the 90s he had all the original stock in their posession either destroyed or locked away in his personal collection to never be seen again.

There's a rumor that Disney is releasing the Original Trilogy pre-SE. I think the story is that Lucas wanted the SE to be the only official version, but Disney would rather not leave any money on the table.

Jokes on them, because I still have my VHS tapes from 1995 that I got with a Raisin Bran mail in rebate!!!

Prints from the first THX rerelease (the pre-cgi one, where they just used some digital remastering to enhance the picture and sound quality but didnt add any cgi) should still be in pretty good quality if kept well preserved.

It's a real shame that most modern Star Wars fans have probably never even seen the original theatrical versions of the OT. There are parts of A New Hope and Jedi that are just destroyed by the addition of unnecessary cgi or other nonsense (such as Vader now screaming NOOO before throwing the emperor down the shaft in Jedi).

I got that shit on Lazer Disc some where

I was 11 when A New Hope came out. I’ve been a fan for a long time!

A question I remember seeing Luke Skywalker
first then then he looks through his binoculars
the the camera pans up and then you see the
Starships battling it out.

I swear this happened when the movie came out on the big screen.

I'm imagining things?

you're clearly mis-remembering this:

I do believe the TV version had some extended/different scenes

I still have my precious widescreen laserdisc rips of the OT. Just gave em another rewatch over the winter, man those films are fucking fantastic. Aging like wine.

What’s your take on the SE? God I hate that fucking thing.

I don't like the changes to story, but I didn't mind the aesthetic update.

I wouldn't mind it if Pixar re-mastered some of their classics with the more contemporary light-rendering and depth of field, so I am not the purist that other dyed-in-the-wool heads might be.

Yes I prefer the original versions, but it's not a love-hate situation like I have with the Prequels.

What’s your take on the Prequels? I find a salvageable 30 minutes or so throughout the entirety of them, but mostly I hate them too.

Soporific detritus.

Anecdotally, a friend begged me to watch ROTS knowing I was completely turned off. He vouched for it, and even though we're still friends anytime anyone extols the "greatness" of ROTS I am filled with an unnameable contempt. At the same time, without the Prequels I would not love STAR WARS' greatest iteration: THE CLONE WARS as much as I do or should. That's an irony.
