I just washed made in China Hydroflask before using and it still smells like unpleasant smelly fish after washing with Palmolive and again with hot water and then cold water over and over. I don't want to drink water from a smelly water bottle no matter if it keeps water cold for a long time.

My made in Japan stainless steel spoon and fork don't smell at all.

Does the fish smell eventually go away for good?

No idea, maybe try filling it with salt water for a day or vinegar water or something?

I don't want the f'ing flask to rust. The FAQ said no bleach or chlorine. Doesn't salt make rust?

Maybe I need to first use it with refrigerated cold soda.

I'd be surprised if a day or two of salt water or baking soda really hurt it, but I'd try your idea first. Fill it up with Club Soda or 7up and leave it for a few days. I'd just pick a soft drink that doesn't have phosphoric acid in it (like Coke or Dr. Pepper).

If it's decent stainless it can't rust anyways. Fill it with vinegar tho

if ya scared of using salt fill it with coke (cola) and leave for a day or 2, might work

Use baking soda with water and mix well.

Are you certain it smells like fish not a female body part?

Dont but Chinese products

It's hard to avoid but I try

Melt it down to remove impurities.

Buy German you wanker... Solves all the problems. 18/10 German stainless smells like Germany Over All.

Same problem with my cock rings let me know the fix

It was a gift. I didn't buy it. The idea of stuff staying cold for 12 hrs is appealing, but it still smells stink like fish after following a website's suggestion of 30 min of boiled water mixed with lemon juice.

Now leaving lemon juice water in there for at least 12 hrs.

I saw some video review of legit made in Japan metal paint stirrer and the reviewer talked about buying cheap China knockoff that rusted.

I drank water from it while it still stunk and there was an unusual dry after taste in mouth.

Who gave you this gift? Is there any reason why they may want to give you tainted goods?

Stainless steel shouldn't rust, as long as it is passivated during manufacture. I don't have much experience with food grade stainless, but I would imagine passivation being a necessity.

That being said, the difference in quality from the raw materials and the manufacturing process between China and Japan is staggering. Japan basically invented modern manufacturing quality standards that the rest of the world now follows, meanwhile China manufactures some of the lowest quality stuff it's often criminal (literally). It's not at all surprising that you're noticing a clear difference in quality between two products made in these 2 countries.

I wouldn't recmend salt. Short of throwing it away, I would recommend using something with citric acid, like lemon or orange juice, to passivate the stainless, then rinse thoroughly with diah soap and water.

If it stinks like fish after repeated attempts of cleaning then get rid of it you goof. Who gives a shit if someone gave it to you. They clearly don't think highly of you to give you a shit quality gift
