Not sure if this should be in stand up or grappling but i started my first mma class last week and one of the exercise they showed us which we then practiced was sprawling from your stance. How long did this take people to get the hang of this ? is one of the hardest moves i have ever tried.

It's a matter of timing, like many other skills. Don't worry too much and practice, practice, practice

I never found it particularly difficult except if your stance is too upright just exhausting. I can see why you wouldn't want to be doing it much in a fight and why when you get tired you sprawls get weaker and weaker.

It all depends on how well the takedown is setup and executed. if your opponent sets it up well, but messing with your position or tricking you, then it will be difficult to sprawl with less time to react. If your opp shoots from across the mat then it will be easy to see coming and sprawl(may not even need to sprawl if that is the case). If they chain takedowns together you will have to adjust and get out quickly.

I think it depends on how good the shot is, sprawling is like the jab, a simple concept but depenging on the level of your opponent, it can be very hard, or very easy

Look at Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz vs Meishas shots against Holm, two diffrent worlds of defense

Depends on how much you do it. Sprawl, repeat. No substitute for hard work.
