Such a GRRM thing to do. He consulted D & D with what key moments happens at the end in terms of character development and and let them tie up loose ends. Arya's arc is she starts as the weakest one in the family and what better way to prove her final transformation into the strongest than by taking on the strongest Knight King's Landing?

Yeah that sounds about right. They've really fucked up this ending by dragging it out. Too much time to predict things, we'll be over it before it even happens. They will either be predictable at this point or random and undeserved. Not helped by the drop in writing quality after they passed the books.
