I accidently butted heads with another kid in class tonight and split my eyebrow open in 2 spots. Anybody know how long I should take off before going back? I'd like to compete again soon and there are two competitions in the next two weeks. Two weeks enough time to heal and not risk ripping it back open? The nurse at the hospital said wait at least 2 weeks if not more.

Anybody else have any advice or any similar experiences?

this one took me out for a month-

dont mess around. i first had a small cut, but i didnt listen to the doctor and i kept training, then it got worse and took 5 stitches.

I sustained a cut on my eyelid from an errant knee a few weeks ago, but I didn't need stitches and it went away in about a week and a half. I got lucky. It easily could have been worse.

I would say to tape it up and go to class..but the thought of sweat getting in that cut gives me the jeebies.

I broke my toe in muay thai, I didn't listen to the doctor.

I broke it again 1 month later and it took me over a year to heal properly, and still hurts sometimes.

Forget those competitions, go lift some weights and do running instead.

I split my eye open in the exact same place (boxer cut - eyelid) during a tournament years ago, coach took a time out threw some duct tape on sent me back in there to compete. Lots of blood, but it did the job in a pinch.

After the tourney I ended up using superglue and everything healed up fine with maybe a week or two of downtime.

if you really want to train buy some Vetbond (Cheap $) or Dermabond (Expensive $) to keep all the sweaty critters out of there :icon_twis

i accidentally bumped heads with my opponent in my first tournament a few months back. fight stopped for 3 minutes while i got bandaged up. bled for most of the day until i put a butterfly on it that night. probably could have used a few stitches, but i decided to go without. kept it tightly closed and covered in neosporin so it would get dry and split again. it was about a week before i took class again, and another week before i actually started rolling live. was bruised sensitive to the touch for a little while after that after each class, but was firmly sealed shut.

and btw.. tried 2 different types of liquid bandage.. just stung like hell and made me bleed more. after drying, it continued to bleed, so i went with a small butterfly stitch, trimmed with small scissors, so it didn't rip out my eyebrow hair. i'd highly recommend not going with a liquid bandage.
