Haven't trained in a long time but I found my Century Bob and thought I'd wack him around, I'm thinking about getting back into Muay Thai. Just for fun I filmed myself doing some spinning back kicks/head kicks. Thoughts?

Me: 6'3, 235lbs, last time I fought was at 220lbs

A'ight so a couple of things:

1. You're not chambering enough on the turning back side kick. You need to chamber that knee farther across your chest while you're torquing up before extending your hips fully .

2.) You're not fully extending your hips on that side kick. There should be almost a straight line between your foot and your shoulder for the height that you're kicking at here.

3.) Idealy your weight should be carrying you forward through the target. Not hitting and spinning back the way you came to get back to stance. This is a lot of wasted motion, and takes a LOT of power away from the kick.

Now, for the head kick you threw. i'm assuming it's a spin kick, and not a hook kick so will treat it as such.

1.) Keep that leg straight, you need the leg straight to act as a pendulum when doing that kick.

2.) Put more snap into your hips just before you hit the target, keep the leg straight and then "pull" through the target as you hit to get more power, and to get back to stance faster.

3.) You need to lean back more on that kick as well, when you keep your body upright on the spin kick you end up crunching your hips instead of opening them up, losing a lot of power.

If you have any questions lemme know, I can try to put a video up explaining/showing better if you'd like.

Great feedback, I'm speechless. Thanks for taking the time man. I'll review this carefully and post a follow up with some improvements hopefully

Anytime man, Never thought my traditional martial art experience would come in handy on this site though not gonna lie haha.

Practice just the spin element, it's really clunky at the moment. Spin fast and spot the target while staying balanced, no kick. Just drill that until you have the spin down. Then you can start adding in the kick. A little tip with the spinning back kick, it's not really a spin at all but a quick twist/turn.

And use your arms more to help you spin faster on the spinning hook kick. Whip your arms around keeping them straight, that will help with balance. As you get better you can keep them in tighter for more speed.

I just want to know when Bob is going to grow arms and legs and take you on.
