I thought this was an interesting story about Anderson Silva's early days training. I always think it is interesting to see where fighters came from and what they had to go through to get where they are. Kind of also gives you an idea of how the whole scene in Curitiba at the time was. Would be an interesting movie premise.

Follow up. Did some searching and found out that supposedly this trainer, Noguchi, didn't think Silva was very good when he started. Granted no fighter is a killer right away, but you always hear about how fighters are naturally gifted.

So? Arianny used to fight for love

This story really makes me want to see more team rivalries in the UFC. Why not a whole card of one camp against another?

You know maybe the top five fighters from the camp, but this format allows maybe five more from each camp to fight on the big stage and gives them immediate recognition. So-so, oh yeah he fights for Team Gracie. Makes the fighters more marketable in the long run.

Think about other sports. People don't just cheer or jeer for Tom Brady, they do for or against the Patriots as well. The Tom Brady and Patriot brands are intertwined and help feed off each other.

We used to put them in a jar and they'd fight for insects we threw in. Before we understood that to be cruelty.

I'm talking real spiders folks. Arachnids. Feel me?

The Portugal striker who scored the winning goal against France days ago used play for porkchops as a kid. 1 porkchop per goal. It's the same only less poverty.

Touching article. The damage these guys did to each other's healths without knowing it. Seeing who could get the quickest KO against their teammate for a sandwich or a pop? Imagine the combined total of concussions.... sounds like there were literally daily or hourly concussions in that gym.

Thank god for science. I know, that sounds like a contradiction.

Touching article.

Nothing I've read about Anderson Silva's past suggests he was poor. (articles in Portuguese and English) Working class, maybe lower working class, but he wasn't poor. I think a lot of people assume this because he is black and from Brazil. I think the sodas and sandwiches were more like friendly bets. Of course, he probably didn't have much money at the time since he was in his twenties and a fighter. Then again, how many of us were rich in our twenties.
