It's all a ruse he is playing the new Spiderman!

So... the snap is going to be resolved in the next like year?

The snap will be resolved in Avengers 4 which comes out May 3, 2019. Spider-Man “2” (or 7, depending how you want to count them) comes out after that.

Awesome.

Still need to see BP and IW though. And Deadpool 2. ARGH!

Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Play Mysterio in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to bring a little mystery to the Spider-Man universe.

The actor is in talks to play the classic Marvel villain Mysterio in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964. A special effects expert, Quentin Beck used his talents to create elaborate illusions to commit crimes and to fight Spider-Man.

Tom Holland starred as the Marvel hero in Spider-Man: Homecomingand recently appeared in Avengers: Infinity War. Jon Watts is returning to direct the sequel to Homecoming, which earned $880 million worldwide. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, two of the screenwriters behind the first movie, are back as well.

Gyllenhaal has an interesting history with Spider-Man. Original Spider-Man star Toby Maguire injured his back while shooting Seabiscuit in between Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Gyllenhaal was briefly considered to take over the role if Maguire could not resume his duties. Maguire was able to return to work, and the filmmakers put a joke about Spider-Man hurting his back into the sequel.

Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is set for July 5, 2019.

I’ve always liked Spider-Man’s gallery of rogues, and mysterio was one of my favourites. Cautiously optimistic.

Mysterio was never a favourite of mine. The only time I was impressed was the absolutely chilling scene in the original Old Man Logan comic, when Mysterio reveals that he's tricked Wolverine into slaughtering the entire X Men by making him think he's fighting an army of Super Villains:eek:

Calling this now, Jake is gonna kill it. He can be super creepy and intense.

I just hope they can make the cornball fishbowl costume work somehow.

I've been waiting for Mysterio since Spiderman 2. Gyllenhaal is the perfect choice for Beck.

Liked the choice of Mysterio, about time he got a big screen appearance. Chameleon is another one who would make for a different kind of movie.

If Gyllenhaal is cast I wonder whether Marvel might be looking to make it more than a one off role? especially if Loki is dead for good, seems like the character could fill a similar kind of slot.

Mysterio doesn't have anything like the power of Loki. He's good strategist, a genius in special effects and related fields and a skilled hand to hand fighter. But he doesn't have any Super Powers. Well, OG Mysterio doesn't; the latest one is a Mutant with Mind Control powers, I believe.

Good to hear they are going to use some of the more obscure spidey villains

Spoiler alert.. Everything that happened in Infinity War meant absolutely nothing :rolleyes:

Jake Gyllenhall is a seriously talented actor though so would be great to see what he can do.

Nothing to say the original has to be the exact template I spose but I think broadly your talking a similar kind of character, someone who works heavily by manipulation and can potentially fit into a lot of other stories even if he isn't the main antagonist. Plus like Hiddlestone your casting someone viewed as a rising star in his prime years.

I really wanted Jake to replace Affleck as Batman, but if he gets the Mysterio gig; I'd see the Homecoming sequel for him alone.

Couldn't stand the first film.

Wasn't it cos Maguire was being an arse, not cos he hurt his back?

..or perhaps Spiderman will play a rather different role in defeating the villians...

True; Keaton's Vulture wasn't an exact replica of the comic book original.

The other difference is that Loki sometimes became almost an Anti-Hero in some movies, whereas Mysterio is pretty much a full time professional Super Criminal. But of course, they could change that as well.

An actor of Gyllenhaal's status, I doubt they'll hire him just to be one and done.
