The fastest athlete to ever play NFL football was Bullet Bob Hayes a Florida A&M runningback. In his track career he would run 11 world records from the 60 to the 200m.

His 10.06 on a dirt track is the superior time for all footballers. As we know the Cowboys made a WR out him and there he had a Hall of Fame career. Bullet Bob was a footballer who just happened to be the fastest man in the world.

We hear......he has world class speed.....a lot, and few times is that true. We heard that a lot with Randy Moss, so what were his WORLD CLASS times, yep.............he didn't have any. Chris Johnson, Devin Hester, Xavier Worthy, Tony Dorsett. Eric Dickerson, Joey Galloway, all were said to have that.....WORLD CLASS SPEED.....yet none of them ever ran a world class time.

Tyreek Hill, De'Von Archane ran 10.15 and 10.14 that is borderline WORLD CLASS.

To compete on the WORLD stage vs world class competition you better be running sub 10.20. The top dawgs are running sub 9.90, you might get a lane with a 10..1ish.

We have seen a few track stars thinking they could play football, like Olympians Jim Hines, Tommie Smith. Ray Norton, Frank Budd (all WR holders) but they....BUST~~~~

Then there was this gang who all ran WORLD CLASS times, who did have decent NFL careers.

ALL TIME NFL 100M

lane

1.Cliff Branch 9.2 Raiders
2.Trindon Holliday 10.00 Broncos
3.Willie McGee 9.1 WR Chargers
4.Bob Hayes 10.06 WR Cowboys
5.Ron Brown 10.06 Rams
6.Darrel Green 10.08 Redskins
7.Mel Gray 9.2 Cards
8.Sam Graddy 10.09 Broncos

Once heard an announcer on an NCAA game say.....

He has WORLD CLASS speed, he runs a 10.4 100m., hahahahahaha~~~

Just so ya know....

Fast HS boys....sub10.30
Fast females.....sub 10.90
Fast NCAAers.....sub 10.10
Olympic types.....sub 10.00

Speed junkie here, love that....zooooooooooooommmmmmmmmm~~~~~~~~~~~

Ted Ginn Jr has world class speed - every TD at OSU

One of my favorite players Darrell Green ran 10.08 seconds. Oh I see you mentioned him. Darrell won all of the NFL fastest man competitions back in the day.

Green did get a chance to compete in DI 100m, he came in 6th, two of those who beat him were future NFLers Mike Miller and Willie Gault,

Yep, a 10.08 cat but was more 10.2ish, curious about the wind in that 10.08. A handful of NFLers ran faster than 10.08 as college sprinters,

Randy Moss was obviously fast but only had one indoor track season while at Marshall, yep won the league 60/200 but with so so times.

If into sprinting I have no problems going with a......10.10ish.

He had a serious stride, totally butlt for a 100m.

So you are telling me a person who trains how to run fast in a track meet is faster than a football player who trains football? I’m shocked.

What’s next ? A power lifter can lift more than an nfl player ?

I'm sure Cristiano Ronaldo would have easily run a sub-10 100m if he actually tried it.

Messi would be in 10.1 - 10.2 range

Sooooo many NFLers were NCAA sprinters, they trained for sprinting, so........???

But, we also have some who were obviously fast like Moss who weren't known for NCAA sprinting, so all we can do is guess..

A guy like DK Metcalf never ran track at the NCAA level but he was obviously fast. So he did run a 100m just for the hell of it, ran a 10.36 which is ok but nothing great, OBVIOUSLY.....with some serious training probably a 10.25ish like Deion Sanders. Herschel Walker.

Then we had Sam Graddy another WR who won the silver medal at the 1984 Olympics, a 10.09 guy,. A different deal there.

IT would make more sense to discuss this stuff in the NFL thread because you included so many NFL players

I tried to dig deeper than last weeks games it doesn't work there, keep it RIGHT NOW. so.....nay.

Besides, what's wrong with right here, well?

The fastest non QB/DB/RB/TE/WR has gotta be Hollywood Henderson, he was a 9.5as a college sprinter and returned kickoffs in the NFL.

A linebacker returning Kickoffs, gotta be a first and last.

Thinking he had a 90 plus return for a score.

There is no way Cristiano Ronaldo runs a sub 10 electronic timed 100m. It is just not happening.

Justin Gatlin has a cool video on youtube talking about football speed vs track speed.

Gatlin ran unofficial 40 times between 4.12 and 4.35. He said himself that the top NFL guys would be competitive against him in the 40. Not in the 100m though.

Prime Tyreek is the goat for me in football because of his combination of top end speed, insane reactive ability and a body structure able to withstand the punishment of a decade+ career in the modern Not For Long league. Almost an inhuman combination.

Tyreek even posted a cool video training with Jaylen Waddle. I forgot the ordering but if they add 20m to the length of the sprint one of them is faster than the other. Without the added 20m though it is reversed.

Good stuff~~~~

Yes a fast "just" footballer can hang with world class sprinters in a 40, there it's just acceleration. Where things get funky is after 50ish, the footballers lacking that speed endurance which the sprinters train for while the footballers don't.

Tyreek Hill is in my opinion the fastest in pads with a football in hand on a football field we have ever seen. No no not the fasest on a track but it just doesn't matter.

For anyone to think little frail soccer ites can run with NFLers with a track background know.....0....about this stuff, no clue at all.

Sprinters hit that topend around 50ish, now it;s all about how long can they hold on to it, yep.....speed endurance.....whch doesn't come naturally you must train for it.

Bolt, spent a very small % of a 100m in that decelleration phase.

I get Xavier Worthy ran a 4.21 40 but he sure doesn't play like a speed demon.

When ya start hearing .......he has world class speed......pertaining to Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love, no he does't, he runs a 10.75 which is ok but miles away from world class.

Jonathan Taylor ran a 10.3 in HS to put things in perspective.
