Sounds like drugs, not PED's

If this is another case of some minimal trace amount of something that wasn't supposed to be in a supplement (not saying I believe that, just if) like with Romero, the UFC really needs to ask itself if this is truly best for the sport and if it's really cleaning up the sport. Stopping guys from purposely taking PEDs is great, busting guys and ruining fights for some tiny amount of something that wasn't going to make a difference is another thing, though.

Again, I'm not saying that I think that's the case here, I'm just speaking hypothetically.

Or fighters could stop using stupid arse shit dodgy supplements like Shed-Rx, HGH-X, TestoMax, MuscleMax, HGH-Rocket-Fuel and actually start using well known, reputable and ideally independanty tested supplements..

It wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world for the UFC and USADA to just come together and make their own brand of supplements that they know are 100% clean, and then offer those to the athletes.

Any athlete who then takes anything other than those supplements, be it from personal preference or sponsorships or whatever, are simply running their own risks and have no one to blame if they fail.

Seems much easier to just give the athletes the option of known clean supplements, and then kick them to the curb if they take something else anyways.

fwiw.. top 5 searches at the moment on globaldro ufc portal...

seems UFC athletes like their recreational drugs... (Cortisone making an appearance as well)

i was listening to the rogan podcast, he said he could pronounce the 2 things he got popped for. kinda beat around the bush that it wasn't steroids, or some foreign substance. actually makes me feel better about the situation if it's just drugs, and not PED's. i could care less if he does drugs. maybe i misunderstood rogan, but that's what i gathered.

You know the letter "D" in PEDs stands for "Drugs", right?

So steroids are the only PED?

really depends what it is. somethings are banned at all times, some things only in competition.

It was out of competition though so that rules out an awful lot of things..

+ Not recreational drugs
+ Not Stimulants

For out of competition it basically reduces it to

+ Anabolics
+ Peptides/Growth Hormones
+ Beta-2 Agonists
+ Hormone/Metabolic Modulators
+ Masking agents

People need to get away from the "PED" thing.. its not "PED" its "prohibited substances".. things can be prohibited for various reasons.

But whatever John is positive for is definately from the categories above
Jones' fans don't want to see their hero tainted and wishfully thinking its a recreational drug.

You think that's just a simple venture? Seriously?

How would using illegal drugs not violate his probation?

Because if you get busted for drunk driving or a hit and run you don't violate probation by roiding.

There is a legally significant difference between rec drugs and PED drugs.

You can have your ass full of testosterone and you will not get busted for a DUI. You violate parole by doing things that are the same or similar for your previous offense.

I mean, I'm sure I'm being dense here(and I am certainly not well-versed in any form of law), but if he pops hot for drugs that are illegal...I don't see how that isn't a violation of probation.

Breaking the law, while on probation, is a violation of said probation, no?

I'm pretty sure it's a tainted supplement. Jones' manager pretty much stated that it was that. NOT ped's or coke.

Ya man, it's totally a tainted supplement because his manager said so. This is like the go to excuse for failed PED tests. This and "unknowingly ingested".

Huh? Didn't know that. I thought most stimulants were banned OOC.

nah, stimulants ooc on the whole are fine. Loads of supplements for energy contain stimulants.

Four categories

S6 Stimulants
S7 Narcotics
S8 Cananabinoids
S9 Glucocorticoids

are only banned In competition

Banned at all time is

S0 Various non-approved substances
S1 Anabolics
S2 Peptides, Hormones etc
S3 Beta-2's
S4 Metabolic modulators
S5 masking agents

Jones is a fraud. Come to terms with it

already exists

http://informed-sport.org http://informed-choice.org

click products, on each logo click and gives you a list of verified products. Informed Sport are members of the institute of national anti doping feds and partners of wada

nothing is every guaranteeed but if you bought a supplement on their list, because it had been tested and by some miracle it was contaminated, you would not be banned as you had shown dilligence.

The two linked orgs are slightly different in test status, one lot are tested monthly, other lot are tested by batch. but both same organisation.

Jesus. It was out-of-competition.
... Was it? I'm pretty sure within 30 days of the fight you're "in competition" for testing purposes. Still doubt they'd bother testing for recreationals on June 16 for a July 9 fight but technically that is within the "in-comp" window I think. I think. @dimspace is that right?

I was under the impression that the in-competition window is just fight week.

I don't disagree with the mindset behind this, especially with guys at the top of the game who can afford the best and don't need to shop off the rack at GNC, I'm simply saying that those type of busts - however rare they may be - aren't really within the cross hairs of the spirit of the rule, as I see it. Taking dat der Cell Tech may not be the smart move for a fighter, but it's not the "problem" in MMA, imo.
