Couture and UFC fighters Rashad / Forrest are some other of the names that he mentions that could of been a possibility for his up coming match.

Diaz was contacted by Sonnen for his upcoming grappling match at UR Fight. And Diaz was up for it but didn't act fast enough.

I was their connection to MMA,” Sonnen said. “So the first guy I called was Randy Couture, and he accepted instantly. Then, while we were still on the phone, he went and looked at his calendar and was like, ‘hey, I can’t even be in the state, I have (to film) a movie in a whole other state, I can’t be in Arizona.’ So he was out. I went to Forrest (Griffin). Forrest liked the idea, but he’s an executive at Zuffa right now, or whatever he is, and he didn’t think he could go anywhere else.

“I went to Rashad (Evans); Rashad had a fight with Shogun (Rua) lined up. I went to Nick Diaz. Nick loved it. Nick was in. But then I didn’t hear back from him. We didn’t hear in time, and I was kind of telling him, hey, this is a rushed deal. I was getting ready to leave town myself to go film Celebrity Apprentice and I had to have it done in like 30 minutes. That didn’t work out. So I called Bisping and he accepted instantly, and that was it.”

On what he thinks Bisping chances are of winning

“Oh, he has no chance. He has absolutely no chance. I will lay on top of him for 15 minutes and then go home. I might submit him. I’m certainly going to try, but he’s not going to go anywhere. I’m going to take him down and whisper in his ear: ‘welcome to the next 15 minutes of your life.'”

In pure grappling, Nick Diaz would absolutely smoke Sonnen on the ground.

Chael just flat out says he will lay on top of him for 15 minutes then go home lmao

that story is wtf

Chael training to take over for Uncle Dana?

Love that Bisping is willing to bypass the takedown to lose on the ground

Gotta disagree. Sonnen would blanket him for 15 minutes. Sonnen survived a good amount of time with Galvo. Galvo makes Nick look like an ameteur on the ground.

Sonnen trained with Diaz and co. for a few months... I forget who Sonnen was getting ready for...

Disagree on that. Diaz is an absolute phenom on the ground. Both Diaz brothers have a super slick, underrated ground game.

Sonnen easily controls the takedowns against Nick, but nick would be going from sub to sub on the ground.

this card is a bigger mess than i thought it would be

Chael had to do the work setting up his own match

Damn that would have been cool!

Gave me a good laugh to. I hope he comes out of retirement for a couple more fights.
Me too

A few more crushing defeats will be good revenge

Lmao. War Chael

Chael went 14 of the total 15 minutes allotted with Andre Galvao who is a multi-time world champion at ADCC and the Mundials. It is levels upon levels - order of magnitudes higher - than Nick's experience in grappling.

Nick won the pan-ams in the brown belt division. It's just a whole different thing.

Sonnen probably weighs 230lbs and is perfectly happy to stall out the match for 15 minutes. I think there is a fairly good chance he can do this to Nick.

If the rules dictate sub-only or disqualification for stalling, sure, Nick taps him out if Sonnen is forced to really roll with him. That is another story though.

Like he did against GSP? Chael is way bigger/stronger than GSP, with years more high-level wrestling.

Revenge for who ...

If he comes back it most likely be against Wand in Bellator or Rizin ... Or fighting older guys with name value. Anderson vs Sonnen 3 is possible.

We're talking ONLY grappling here, not MMA with strikes.

I suppose I may be in the minority, but I think Nick is much slicker on the ground than Chael.
