Songs That Bum U Out?

Dunno, the last few lines seem to offer a glimmer of hope. Pretty bleak otherwise, admittedly.

Yeah somewhat, I interpret that part to be about the nostalgia you feel thinking about better times or the feelings you still have for that person. The rest is pretty sad though. I really like interpol though, all their music seems to actually be about something real.

Easily, easily, easily
this song. Fought back a
tear the second the intro hit.

(Haven't heard it in a few years.
& its not an easy emotional listen
for me. The built to spill ver. is kinder)

Tool - Schism

I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away.
Mildewed and smoldering. Fundamental differing.
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot seem to reach an end crippling our communication.

I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire to
Point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over.
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication

The poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
And the circling is worth it.
Finding beauty in the dissonance.

There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away.
Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing.
Doomed to crumble unless we grow, and strengthen our communication.

Cold silence
has a tendency
to atrophy any
sense of compassion
between supposed lovers,
between supposed lovers,

I know the pieces fit

Beautiful song.

Arcade Fire - Afterlife

Afterlife, oh my God, what an awful word
After all the breath and the dirt
And the fires that burn
And after all this time
And after all the ambulances go
And after all the hangers-on are done
Hanging on to the dead lights
Of the afterglow

I've gotta know
Can we work it out?
We scream and shout 'till we work it out
Can we just work it out?
Scream and shout 'till we work it out?
'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out
'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out

Afterlife, I think I saw what happens next
It was just a glimpse of you
Like looking through a window
Or a shallow sea
Could you see me?
And after all this time
It's like nothing else we used to know
After all the hangers-on are done
Hanging on to the dead lights
Of the afterglow

I've gotta know

Can we work it out?
Let's scream and shout 'till we work it out
Can we just work it out?
If you scream and shout 'till we work it out?

But you say
Oh, when love is gone
Where does it go?
And you say
Oh, when love is gone
Where does it go?
And where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?
Where do we go?

And after this
Can it last another night?
After all the bad advice
Had nothing at all to do with life

I've gotta know

Can we work it out?
Scream and shout 'till we work it out?
Can we just work it out?
Scream and shout 'till we work it out?

But you say
Oh, when love is gone
Where does it go?
And you say
Oh, when love is gone
Where does it go?
Oh, we know it's gone
Where did it go?
Oh, we know it's gone
Where did it go?
And where do we go?

Is this the afterlife?
It's just an afterlife, with you
It's just an afterlife
It's just an afterlife, with you
It's just an afterlife

Awesome song. Brutal lyrics for anyone who has 'Loved and lost'.

The last two songs on "Surf's Up" by The Beach Boys - "Til I Die" and the title track. Brian Wilson at his genius best, so elegiac.

Not much. Moody, stereotypically depressing stuff like Depeche Mode or Eleanor Rigby or something like "Nutshell" by Alice in Chains actually kind of gets me out of low moods.

I kind of just get bummed out when I hear dog shit pop music and think about where culture is headed...

Ironically yeah. The dark "depressing stuff" actually gives me solace when I'm feeling down and shitty but when I hear manufactured bullshit fucking pop music on the radio or tv I get angry and have to switch it off right away. Fucking garbage like this makes me wanna shoot myself in the face. Even the video, I don't even think damn she's sexy, I just think what the fuck is up with this muppet? Is she having some kind of fit or something?

Sarabeth by Rascal Flatts

Just recently discovered that song, thanks to @Rex Kwon Do
The last few songs on that album are great.

Wow, someone on Sherdog who is familiar the Beach Boys' music post-Pet Sounds? Amazing! Great to see.

Have you heard the Desper mix?

this one gets me too

I don't know if songs bum me out...I really enjoy sad music. If I enjoy it, I'm not sure I can say it bums me out. Here are some somber songs, or songs that remind me of unhappy times or thoughts, that I like.

This reminds me of The Deer Hunter so that alone makes it a sad song. What a depressing, and great, movie.

Great song. Sad little melody.

This song is a lullaby, and as such doesn't have sad lyrics--it's just a mother polar bear trying to get her cub to sleep--but the melody is very sad to me.

This one is made much more depressing to think about how badly Charlie Parker was doing at the time when he recorded it. Was supposedly so wasted that he couldn't stand; they had to prop him up to the microphone. It's a great recording though.

Music can't really change my mood from good to bad or bad to good, just bad to worse or good to better.

Pretty much anything by nick drake and also the youth group cover of forever young.
