Crime Someone tried to assassinate Donald Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania

Probably but there was a suspiciously high level of incompetence. The decision not to put anyone on a very slightly sloped roof 130 yards from Trump due to "safety concerns" is amazing.

Well there is a group of buildings clustered together and there wasn't anyone on any of the roofs. As I said earlier in the thread, the shooter climbed onto an adjacent building before walking across some connector onto the building he shot from. That adjacent building is even flatter than the supposedly 'sloped' roof that I measured at about 6.5 degrees. lol.

He climbed onto the one in the middle and you can see how flat it is. I think the secret service director should be fired just for that response she gave whether she had anything to do with the security holes or not.

It's not weird at all; it's defiant normalcy in the face of very dystopian digital deterioration of the human experience and spirit. I've gradually eliminated nearly all forms of escapist, fictional, and sedentary entertainment outright. I'd much rather spend my solo leisure time in the gym, on the trails, at the range, or up in the forest.
I think that’s great, and I wish I could take credit for “defiant normalcy” :)
Truth is, I’m also affected by the “digital deterioration” (that’d make a sweet band or album name btw), I just consume very different things.

I’ve been a voracious reader and learner since I was a kid, and while I initially read a lot of fiction, that was largely phased out by junior high. Digital medium has brought all that info to my fingertips; so I am constantly reading and learning shit about politics, religion, and history, but also have my little hobbies like music or whiskey hunting or whatever.

It’s funny: when Twitter first came out and I heard what it was, I said: “That’s stupid. Who’d want that? You can’t communicate anything meaningful in 144 characters.” Of course, that’s exactly what people liked, because people love shallow shit and rarely want to dig deeper. I’m a “dig deeper and give me some substance” kind of guy.

He seems to fit the mold of the young male mass shooter. Narcissistic, depressed, bitter, and resentful. Him not having a really obvious political affiliation + seemingly researching various potential targets makes it looks like he just wanted to do something big (especially in a way that he valued; shooting a rifle), make a name for himself, and affect a lot of people. He apparently didn't like political leaders in general. Maybe because he didn't like having a leader.

I'm not sure if he was arrogant enough to believe he could escape or not. Or maybe he thought he'd be captured and not killed. He apparently had a bike stashed there. Or maybe he was just suicidal.

Surprising lack of a manifesto too. If you are going to kill one of the most famous people in the world at least give your reasons.

I would have preferred he lived, maybe just have the shot paralyze him. Would have liked to see his reaction when he realized he missed and the whole world is mocking him.

A neck shot making him a quad would've been fitting. But I guess you can't expect 2 so unlikely shots at the same event.

Definitely. I expect a grilling session but it remains to be seen how many answers they actually get.

On the one hand they want to browbeat about toning down rhetoric and in the next breathe they're casually musing if this was all malicious and intentional to whip up a scandal.
Oh I think this is all a bit of what they’d call “virtue signaling.”
They want to smear liberals as being the cause of this tragedy, and turn it into a way to silence criticism of Trump. Now you’re a terrible violence-inciting person if you criticize Trump, meanwhile he’s a sympathetic character who can enact his horrific agenda without criticism. It’s really gross, but effective, which kind of sums up the MAGA movement on the whole unfortunately.

Yes. YOU THINK you've been able to fit more pieces together. YOU. THINK.

How much we weigh each piece of evidence is in fact very much subjective. Which is why you have to say "I think I've..."

If I say "I think a donation speaks much louder than registering because there's a more plausible explanation for the latter", all you can do is say you disagree. You're not some objective arbiter of which evidence matters more. That's not how this works.
I can't believe you're still trying to reason with him . . .

LOL...thanks for proving my point.
The only point you have is the one on top of your head.

Around 47% of those arrested—485 individuals—have received criminal sentences, while the rest are waiting for their trials or haven’t yet reached plea agreements. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, 277 defendants were sentenced to periods of incarceration, with longer prison terms for those who engaged in violence or threats. So far, the median prison sentence for the Jan. 6 rioters is 60 days, according to TIME’s calculation of the public records. An additional 113 rioters have been sentenced to periods of home detention, while most sentences have included fines, community service and probation for low-level offenses like illegally parading or demonstrating in the Capitol, which is a misdemeanor.

Yeah, and I'm not talking about the kid. I was addressing BFoe's posts on his own lifestyle, and multi-quoted High Test's post on accident.
No worries here, btw "dystopian digital deterioration" is the new, solid think-phrase for reflecting on the state of the world

Tried watching, iirc the writing was (subjectively) bad and I couldn't even start the second episode. If I try it again I'll tag ya in the berry thread on it to discuss further
I stopped after a few minutes into the first episode myself, but waited a while and ended up watching all of it with my wife. It does get better.

I'm not. I pointed a couple things out to him yesterday and his last reply was "okay". So I think we are done.
That's what trolls do, but you did show a good number of patients.

This seems like a reach to me. I'm sure some would try to browbeat you into being quiet due to the shooting, but let's be honest, criticism of Trump is never going to be silenced. Just as criticism of Biden, Harris, etc. will never be silenced.
