I understand the Tony vs Paddy matchup. It's the classic aging veteran with a big name against the rising company star. I'm a fan of Tony Ferguson. How can you not be? His fighting style, out there personality and his rise to serious title contender were great to witness. I've watched a few of Tony's fights the past few days and a couple of Paddy's. Tony still shows flashes of his greatness, still comes to fights in shape and still has the fighting spirit. That is the good news. Tony is on a 6 fight losing streak, will be a couple months shy of 40 when he fights Paddy and no longer can rely on his toughness to win a war of attrition. Can Tony win this fight? Yes it is possible. Paddy hangs that chin out there and is willing to exchange, he can be caught. Most likely scenario is Tony stuns him a couple of times in the first round when they are both tagging each other and Paddy submits him late in the second round. In the lighter divisions, being close to 40 is a serious disadvantage. Combine that with a six fight losing streak including being finished in his last 3 fights and Paddy is rightfully a clear favorite. Just mentioning Tony Ferguson is misleading since this is 2023 (almost 2024) Tony Ferguson, 6 fight losing streak Tony Ferguson, ~40 year old Tony Ferguson and finished 4 out of the last 6 losses Tony Ferguson. No disrespect to Tony, he's had a hell of a career and I wish him nothing but good health and a prosperous future. I realize Dana's out there trying to sell air conditioners to Eskimos in Alaska but lets just keep things in perspective.

passing of the guard fight

Tony is a pro athlete and an adult, if he signs the dotted line for a fight he knows what he's getting into.

El CuCuoy Bless

Fixed it for TS cause apparently he didn't go to school.

Just called Dana but had to talk with one of his assistants:

She said, Let them cook

Paragraphs are our friends.

Talk to Dana about what, exactly? Are you saying he should have cut Tony, already?

The guy is not quitting anytime soon. But he’s still getting paid well by the UFC. Nobody else is going to come close to what the UFC is paying him. And if you’re making as much as Tony is you can’t be fighting random cans. Although Arlovski has fought many lower level fighters in the last few years.

But I’m pretty sure Tony gets cut if he loses to Paddy, but doesn’t retire. When Dana says you should retire. That pretty much means the company doesn’t think you’re worth the cost of your contract anymore. And he might even be thinking about a fighter’s future health.. Or not?

But the writing is on the wall.

This is the result when a fighter refuses to acknowledge time and age. He's too big a name to waste on the young up and comers he has the best chance against and too fragile to put against game talent. I think the UFC did pretty well in this case.

Definitely putting a worn veteran to the slaughter IMO. Bad look for the UFC. Should save Tony from himself and cut him tbh. He needs 'the talk'

The outrage here over this fight has been entertaining. The consensus seems to be that Paddy "sucks," yet Tony will likely lose this fight. So who exactly should he be fighting? Chuck Liddell?

God damn it would be funny if Tony finds a way to win, particularly a finish.

Tbh paddy is lower level than everyone Tony's faced since losing. Hard to think who else Tony can fight who's much worse. Only issue is Paddy does have power, but Tony can definitely make him miss.
He's also quick, so maybe if Tony is losing he'll really realise he's a few steps behind in speed now.

That paragraph was easy to read. Looks lile sherdog is full of people who can't read more than a few lines at a time because of too much tiktok.

It's always so much easier to read one giant paragraph. i like it when my eyes hurt.

"Paragraphs are our friends."
Noted

Cliff notes: Dana's pretending he's sending a young, hungry Tony out there. Tony is way past it, 6 losses in a row (3 finishes in a row plus the Gaethje beating). John Morgan and friends won't call him out on it so I will. A great point is that Tony is making big money to get beat up the past couple of years. This is LW, not HW.

Tony could win. Paddy is not some unbeatable force, he takes lots of damage to do damage. It's a step down from Greene. I thought this was a good matchup and who they should've been matching Tony up with. It will probably be fun too.

Paddy is lower level than the rest but 40 years old, 6 losses in a row and we're talking about the LW division. For a reference see BJ and Frankie to see how this continues.
