If I had additional money to invest, this is exactly where I would put it.

The amount of electricity generated using solar panels stands to expand as much as sixfold by 2030 as the cost of production falls below competing natural gas and coal-fired plants, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Technological advancements are making the use of renewable energy a more viable source. More energy can be derived from less and it's becoming much cheaper than fossil fuels.

They're also creating MORE jobs than oil drilling

Whether you believe in climate change or not (which is absurd), it is clear that this is the way that the market is trending and it's something that we should all get behind.

Obligatory "what happens when we use up the sun and we're in the dark?" post.

So what you are saying is that you hate america

This tech is literally like 100 years late to the show. Researching solar, wind and other renewables should have been priority number one for the western world.

That said this is awesome news and a reason to be optimistic.

Indeed, thats why greenhouse gases are actually a good thing, they recycle solar energy for all.

We send a manned spaceship on a suicide mission to the sun so they can launch a nuclear fission device towards it, re-igniting it and save the earth.

Greenhouse gasses trap heat. Solar cells take the photons from direct sunlight and transfer them into electrons to be used for energy. Completely different. Look at planets that have an atmosphere incredibly high in greenhouse gasses, like Venus. If you were on Venus, the amount of sunlight you receive would not be proportional to the extreme heat that is trapped by the greenhouse gasses.

Plug solar panels into air conditioning units.

Global warming solved.

Thats sorta the plot to The Matrix

I knew you were being sarcastic, but I know how some of the people are around here. There was bound to be one or two knuckleheads that believed you and used your post to further rationalize their irrational beliefs on climate change.

Just seems cowardly to use the sun.

what happens to everyone in the OPEC countries when the oil is worthless? big ass war imo

I fucking love everything solar. I built a solar oven as an 8th grader and if was insanely effective. There is so much energy available for free, and it is a shame to not harvest it. I also live in NorCal and the amount of solar panels that have gone up in the last 5 years is simply amazing. I got a new roof last year and will certainly be going solar soon.

I wish solar water heaters were more popular though. They can be cheap and insanely effective.

I can't wait until I have an electric car that is powered by solar panels on my house.

Sun of a bizniz!

Hopefully our politicians don't wait for coal and oil run out or tax the beetle juice out of it like they do with wind power in Sweden.

So what your saying is there will be war in the middle east?
Is the world ready for that change?

With the advancements in tech, it's almost inevitable that it will eventually surpass fossil fuels. Plus, earlier this year, 178 countries signed the Paris Agreement, legally binding them to cut emissions drastically. So, to avoid being held accountable, there's been a HUGE push in recent months towards renewable energy in countries all over the world. China has committed quite a bit to it as well.
