I've found quite a few libertarians who believe in basic universal income or flat tax (dunno about both at the same time...) as alternatives to the current system.

I think one of the big problems is the increased life expectancy compared to 30 years ago. Retirees are using up more and more of that social security as they live longer and longer yet pay into it the same.

Yeah, I'm Gen X but all the hate on millenials is tiresome.

It seems to come mostly from the boomers as well. Most of which have massively benefitted from our modern Social Security system, and in Australia from a once off massive appreciation of a primary asset (house prices) through nothing else but being born at the right time.

They'll just make 'investing' in treasury bonds or social security bonds a required % of your 401K or pension. Then they'll default on those bonds.

-Making college a requirement for most jobs so everyone starts in debt and 4 years later
-pressuring women to work, for feminism, to flood the labor market so now both parents have to work to afford to raise their kids
-exploding the amount of "unpaid internships" so millennials have to wait even longer to make decent money
-flooding the country with immigrant labor to lower wages further
-Causing the housing bubble and then inflating it again, so that makes it harder for the next generation to buy homes (gotta refinance with the highest possible value for free moneys)
-starting the enormous drug trade in the US
-filling the radio and tv with smut for your kids
-creating STDs (prior to 1960, there were 3 in the US and all curable)
-ruining our perfect war record
-crashing the social security Ponzi scheme by having less kids, and then not raising them because you're career driven feminists now
-forcing Obamacare on millennials so that we have to pay for your rising healthcare costs

I can go all day. Baby boomers worst generation. Millennials suck in general but not half as bad as baby boomers do. Millennials sacrifice more money and more years of their life to get into a career where they work more hours than baby boomers did, for less money... then get called lazy

I hope they die off sooner so we don't have to carry them more and they don't have time to take out more loans against future generations like they love to do

You know, I'd be more worried, but one of my neighbors in my youth, a very nice man who is a non-denominational pastor for a small church, was also a SS# alarmist, and actually drove around a van with messages written in huge, bold letters that he changed all the time.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that it was going to run out in under 25 years over two decades ago, so as a consequence I'm slightly less alarmed when I see headlines like this, these days, as an adult.
