Without those 2 guys who will inherit the mantle as the gatekeepers of the heavyweight division

Arlovski and Oleinik are also up there at age

It pisses me off so much when they cut/don't extend contact (for) fighters who are in the top 15, especially in the top 10.
Then the goof is trying his best to come up with an excuse how someone is old etc. but forgets about the fact that that "old, not having it anymore" fighter
is still smashing dudes in the top 10. So that speaks about the overall talent pool if your elite fighters are getting smashed by old and "past it" fighters.
Same goes with cutting "boring" fighters. Hell, I don't mind the boring aspect that much if the person manages to keep winning.
It waters down the roster.

Arlovski will stick around until he gets KO'd again.
Oleinik is probably about to get cut soon, even if he's worth pennies to the UFC. The dude just makes the brand look bad, 50 year old getting KO'd by young 265 lbs men.

Arlovski competing at this level considering his age really is extraordinary.
He chin literally seems to be better now than in his prime.

Blaydes is THE gatekeeper to beat. If you beat Blaydes, you are good enough to fight for the title.

That's what gatekeeper means to me. Reem and JDS let too many pass through to be considered gatekeepers.

Name one guy who beat JDS that shouldn't fight for a title. Maybe Blaydes? That's it. And he's taking over as #1 gatekeeper.

And name one who beat Overeem in the last 6 years that didn't deserve a title fight. Maybe Volkov? So he joins Blaydes as the new gatekeeper.

Can't tell me those guys were just journeyman fighters lol.

Stipe and Rozencrack.

I think Volkov and Blaydes both beat Stipe.

Totally agree. I prefer an Overeem or JDS main event over De Lima every day. No point in cutting ranked fighters and filling the roster with random prospects.

Well Junior lost to Blaydes AND Jarzinho. Neither of those guys are anywhere close to a title. That's simply too many to let pass through to be considered the gatekeeper. He lost to Gane too. You mean to tell me all three of these dudes will fight for the belt? Nah man.

Same with Reem. Convinient for you to stop at 6 years which is just short enough to not include his Rothwell loss, which was a little over 6 years ago. But okay for the sake of your argument, let's take it away lmao.

Idk what Overeem's pay was but I know at one point he had a $800,000 base pay and JDS got a lot too. I wish they didn't cut them, those guy made them a lot of money, but I mean...if you didn't see it coming then I just don't know what to tell ya. I knew it was a matter of time and I was surprised it took that long, not happy about it, just figured it was coming. You can't have that big of a price tag and be far passed your prime and not be always on the cutting block. It's not like they were like, well we don't want them on our roster lol. Seems super duper simple to me, it's a business before a sport unfortunately.

Oleinik is not even a gatekeeper anymore. He is completely done, he is an old grandpa and will get cut very very soon.

It beyond sucks that they fed JDS to three contenders in a row just to cut him but they let Arlovski stink up the card decisioning bums. JDS could have been KOing those same fighters and actually adding some excitement value to cards.

I can sort of get JDS since he got finished four times in a row but Overeem was like 4-2 in his last six and clearly a fan favorite.

Basically Endeavor doesn't want to pay big bucks for these legends even if they're still competitive so they give them bad match up after bad match up so they can either renegotiate their salary way down or just cut them.

I understand why they do it but it feels like even under Zuffa the company was more forgiving of these aging legends.

Felt like JDS was given ridiculously unfavourable matchups under his circumstances, I understand the cut, but not one person has beaten all of Big Frank, Blaydes, Rozey or Gane it's hard to think of a tougher run-in really in the UFC HW division... In recent years Overeem had some mildly favourable matchups and came out on top of most of them, I can see why both cuts seemed harsh and yet also see why they are understandable, but had they both been 25 noobs with the same last 6 fights each I think only one gets cut.
