So this is heavyweight Jon Jones

Jones is moving up at the most intelligent time.
At 30 athletes will begin to lose quickness and men will put on weight.

Hes moving into a division with inferior athletes compared to lhw where's he been dominant.

He handedly beat one of the best HWs ever (who was undefeated ) twice.

You couldn't plan a smarter career transition in mma than the one hes taking
inferior fighters... on average. The top of the HW division is stronger than the top of the LHW.

LHW champ: Jan
HW champ: Ngannou

LHW's top notable fighters: Glover, Reyes, Rakic, Ankalaev
HW's top notable fighters: Miocic, Gane, Volkov, Blaydes

Jon Jones is never even gonna face guys like Walker, Crute, Tybura or Spivak. For him, only the quality at the very top matters.

Some say he lost his last two fights at LHW...he ruled LHW but to say Ngannou or Gane are inferior athletes is false narrative, the majority of the HW are, but he isnt fighting those guys.

Compared to the level of athletes in the other divisions HW is abysmally unathletic.

Not to mention many of Jones opponents at LHW dominated at HW or champions, Rashad, Vera, Bader and of course DC was HW champ never losing a round a HW.

Who would you rather face - rashad, Vera and bader or ngannou and gane?

Conveniently left out DC I see…
Well, he obviously is different than the others……..

That said, I’m not sure it changes much. The reality is that ngannou and gane are his potential opponents at hw right now. And none of those guys faced either. And none but DC would have much of a chance.

True Gane and Ngannou are better than many of the uncoordinated HWs. But still relatively unskilled.

That said they pale in comparison to the level of skill and athleticism at LHW and the idea that Jones lost is absurd.

Me personally?
Thats an odd question. They'd all beat the shit out of me in their prime on my best day.
None?

I said some, to me both were close and im ok with Jones getting the win, specially against Santos, Reyes fight wasnt that clear but i could still see the fight for him, my point is, he isnt the dominant fighter he once was, and while he might run through the contenders at HW, the two at the top will be trouble.

I'd say Gane has shown remarkable skill especially as a HW and early into MMA. Ngannou seems to be pretty skilled too but when I see his sequence vs Rozenstruik I wince in pain.

Gear that lasts... Must be referring to his pulsing?

Again, it's stupid to look at the entire division. Jon isn't gonna fight the entire division, only those at the top.

Absolutely.
Hes not the same fighter and LHW isn't the same as it was when he was in his early 20s

Hes not hellbowing skulls, hes frankly more like GSp now.

That said, hes still considerably more skilled than any current HW

True, but the guys at the top look skilled/athletic and fast only compared to the rest of the division, which is athletically weak

Not really. Ngannou and Gane looks athletic period, not just "for HW".

Ngannou, Gane.
Jan, Rakic.
Adesanya, Whittaker.
Usman, Covington.

They're athletic compared to any of them. Gane is still decently fast compared to the MWs.

You…if you were jon jones

That's a tough question.
I think it depends where they are in their careers.

I think Rashad was probably the greatest threat to Jones at the time because of his wrestling, quickness/athleticism and ability to also strike. Jones was also relatively green at the time and Rashad had trained with him, enough to hold him down in training.

People paint Francis as a killer, which he is, but he only has punching in his arsenal. I suspect without a mass discrepancy Fracis is not as big a threat as everyone is painting.

So perhaps Rashad (relative to the time)
