The UFC just inducted Frye into their Hall of Fame today and the timing makes little sense unless he is TBD.
I know what you're thinking, "Frye is 50 years old and has been retired a long time!" True, he's old and would be coming out of a long retirement, but Lesnar is also coming out of retirement and fighting on short notice. He doesn't have the time to train to fight the top heavyweight title contenders. Also Hendo just fought at 45 and Couture fought into old age as well. 50 is undoubtedly old but it's not out of the question that someone would fight at that age. After all, Bernard Hopkins is older than Frye and is still active in boxing.
Also, I don't think Brock is making a serious return to the UFC with the intention of a title run. This match is just about creating a little extra buzz for UFC 200. Also with this being one of the centennial events, it would make sense to bring back someone like Frye for the nostalgia element.
Frankly, I think this is nothing but a gimmick fight, meant to draw in some wrestling fans who wouldn't otherwise have purchased UFC 200. The fight will be totally inconsequential and win or lose, Lesnar probably won't make a serious return with the intention of regaining the belt. It's just a cash grab for the fighters and a marketing ploy for the UFC.
