Don`t get me wrong, I`m happy to see Lesnar back in action. It kind of makes me feel sad at the same time. MMA and UFC still needs this connection with WWE superstars to make huge numbers. Maybe "need" is a wrong word but atleast they want to triple the cashflow with bigger stars than their own. Conor is off the card so it has some effect but anyway.

As an European I`m not familiar with the WWE starpower but I guess in the US it`s still huge.

Any thoughts?

Tell that to Conor who's is selling multiple 1Million+ ppv and btw MMA has surpassed boxing in fame and PPV numbers. So no they don't, but Brock will help for sure.

UFC doesn't need stars. They're neck and neck with soccer.

My only thought is that you probably struggle with the concept of "need"

MMA needs superfights.

Brock Vs Fedor is the only real Superfight they can do.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/the-fight-...-fedor-emelianenko-at-cowboys-stadium-in-2012
“We were right there. When I was talking about doing that big Dallas Texas Stadium show it was going to be Brock Lesnar vs. (Fedor Emelianenko),” White revealed on Saturday.

“Remember when I met with him and said it didn’t go well? It actually went well. He wanted to fight Fedor. (Fedor’s dad passed away) and he said, ‘I’m done. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family.'”

Following a three-fight losing streak in Strikeforce that ended in 2011, Fedor returned by fighting twice for M-1 Global and at a New Year’s Eve show in Japan, picking up three consecutive victories to get him back on track.

It was after his June 2012 fight against former UFC heavyweight contender Pedro Rizzo that Fedor decided to retire from the sport of MMA and spend more time at home with his family. White says it was actually the death of his father that led to his retirement and increased his desire to focus on his family instead of fighting.

During the long process to try and get a deal done, UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta traveled to Russia and met with Fedor to try and negotiate a fight with Lesnar. The two parties came very close to a deal, but then when Emelianenko’s father passed away, he ultimately passed on the fight.

That eventually led to Lesnar opting to stay retired and focused on his career in professional wrestling in the WWE.

“We were negotiating for months and then after his dad died and he said ‘that’s it, I’m done’ or whatever, and then Brock said ‘I’m done, too,'” said White.

If pro sports has taught us anything, it’s that an athlete’s desire to compete doesn’t just go away because they say they’re retired. Still, White’s pretty sure Fedor was serious about calling it a career, and he’s fine with that, but you can still never say never.

“From what I understand, he has absolutely, positively made the decision never to fight again. But, I mean, anything’s possible,” said White.

ZUFFA was gonna make the fight for the cowboys stadium after Fedor was fighting in Russia n shit and Lesnar was retired.

They both showed interest to come back.

So Im not surprised they will comeback for UFC 200.

I don't get the point
Of course star power is important.

It goes both ways ... WWE got a shitload of publicity when RR jumped in the ring at Mania 2015 with The Rock & that was due to her star power from UFC.

One does not need the other, but if it makes sense it is silly not to use it!

They do.

Once Brock news hit Conor and Ronda talk took a back seat to Brock like they were nothing.

People only talk about Conor or Ronda cause they're bored, but when someone big comes along they're pretty much irrelevant. If Brock had a 1 year contract with UFC no one would be talking about Conor for that entire year

The fact so many MMA fans still feel the need to legitimize their sport by talking shit about boxing says a lot. Boxing is going to be just fine until this fucking world ends. With all the shit clown ass Dana White keeps pulling, please stop trying to act like the UFC has any more integrity than boxing. FFS, the OWNERS of the UFC have organized crime connectiions.

Stacked card with a little bit of variety. Good business.

Conor broke the majority if not all of Brock's records. Right?.

I wouldn't call a former UFC champ an outside star.

Gate records = yes
Brock never did huge gate numbers

Overall numbers = yes
PPV cost more now so 196 doing 100k less than 100 still means more money coming in.

The UFC didn't need Brock. They had Conor. They just didn't want to acquiesce to his demands. Their only signed superstars at this point are Conor and Ronda, and Ronda is out. They could've given in to Conor's request for less promotion but they didn't. It doesn't mean they need Brock.

That's wishful thinking and delusion on your part. Brock's last ppv did 500k. The fact is he stopped being so big after he lost the title.

People are excited because it was unexpected and he's been out for so long.

Lol this post reeks of haterism.

Conor? Rousey?

I don't think they are trying to rely on Lesnar's star power much.

it has nothing to do with WWE.

it has to do with brock being a superstar.

If the ufc had tom cruise fight on a card it would do great ratings too....hell celebrity boxing did like 25-30 million viewers on fox and those were mostly washed up celebs.
