I tried youtubing the guys last five fights to see what hes like in the ring..and i cant find one.. not one of his last five fights?? Just the pavlik beat down

I get roy jones is almost 50 but i watched his last fight agiasnt bobby gunn last year and he looked pretty good for his age still bobbing and weeving..jab was on point liver shots too

So why this guy?..i know he shouldnt be fighting anyone near top 5..but is there not someone else? Even just a one off agiasnt an old rival or something?

He's cooked and has nothing left to offer the sport inside the ring besides his actual life. The fact he's still fighting is disturbing and shows how fucking sad the governing bodies really are.

Roy just wants to fight in front of his hometown crowd and make a few bucks. He's just fighting a guy he think he can beat. Its a meaningless fight for anyone but HARDCORE roy fans.

Sugar Shane Mosley just retired after 10 fights too many and sounds like fucking Porky Pig now. Same with Timothy Bradley. Manny Pacman who was one of the best of our time lost to a fucking elementary school teacher in his last fight and overall has lost 4 of his last 9 fights but keeps on fighting despite being a shell of his former self.

They do it for fame or money or just because they don't know how to do anything else but all of those reasons are bullshit anyway.

Yeah the appeal of fighting in general for those who have reached the pinnacle is too much to simplly walk away but thats why theres surpose to be commision who stop unessicary fights from happening..

Like if i worked for the licensing issue commitee for this fight..id be hard press to allow a 50 year old fight a 30 year old..even without considering who they were or records..then id look at records to make sure..which in this case id be even more dumb founded as how it could be expected to be competive..then the purpose of the fight..is it for redemption?..a title?. A historic win count?.. which non of it is.. then finally fighter medicals previous kos..each have suffered some decent damage..so why have this fight go through?...i guess the commisons are a whole other subject but yeah wish it had more meaning this fight.. not sure if ill watch..was kinda let down by the opponent choice tbh

You're talking about him not being able to hang with anyone near top 5 etc, but the reality is that he doesn't have a chance with anyone remotely near top 50. Roy Jones Jr is totally done. Even a faded Enzo Maccarinelli beat the tar out of him. As for beating Bobby Gunn, Bobby Gunn only has a name because of bareknuckle boxing, in professional boxing he's always been a scrub at the international level and is now well into his 40s.

The quality of opposition that RJJ used to clown and could pick the round he stopped them back in the 90s, that level now threatens to give him brain damage. He can only beat absolute stiffs. Of course the fight doesn't matter. A Roy Jones Jr fight hasn't mattered in years. It shouldn't matter much to the boxing world whether or not RJJ's last fight is against a has-been or a never-was, just that hopefully it is actually his final fight and that he doesn't suffer any more brain damage during the bout.
