To actually answer the op though, I actually think Jones is an interesting style matchup for Tom.
Tom hasn't been past the first round, he's on record saying DC is a nightmare matchup for him.
We really dont know how good his wrestling is, how good his cardio is, how his boxing prowess changes when tiredness or the threat of the takedown is at play. It's also tricky to box someone who dictates the kicking range as well as Jones does.
That being said, Jones was noticeably slower in his reflexes and reactions during his last fight, he's getting up there in age and probably past his prime.
Tom is known to be one of the fastest HW's in the divisions history on the feet, Jones couldn't afford to give him the same openings he did against Stipe and would likely need to wrestle / implement a more diverse and cautious gameplan, especially in the early rounds.
So, it's an intriguing fight where both guys have potential for success.
As many fighters and analysts have said though, Jones already has the most impressive resume in the sports history. He's already ubiquitously going down as the goat. Beating Tom would be a nice cherry on top of an accomplished career, but it wouldn't really change much in terms of legacy, regardless of whether he won or lost.
So, essentially it's a high risk, low reward fight.
Where that changes is if Dana and Co give Jones a bigger piece of the pie. He's their last big star with Conor and Alex gone, so if the UFC were ever going to make that exception, it's now.
Jones has said Tom does nothing for him, while simultaneously saying he's not going to retire and give the fans what they want to see in the cage.
Dana said he's confident it happens, Ultimately we'll just have to wait and see.
People that are confident Tom smokes him aren't very good at analyzing mma though.
