7 title defenses so far.He fights cejudo tonight, who lets admit it,has very little hope of winning. Then he will fight the TUF winner. So he will have 9 title defenses.Anderson's record is 10.Do you think the tide will turn on his popularity,as he nears breaking the record?Especially with a finish or two.(he really isn't that bad in that respect 4/7 of his defenses are finishes...)

how the fuck does henry cejudo have very little hope of winning?

he is +345 in vegas. he's being given a better chance than anyone DJ has fought since dodson in 2013.

TS your logic is screwed. Adjust MM for size and 2 flyweight defenses equal one MW defenses. So he needs 20 to tie Andy.

No one cares about flw, they are too small..DJ is very close to the ground I suppose.

He will never be popular. He would be by now if it was going to happen.
He doesn't have the sizzle... all steak.
He's great, but it is a boring division.

I think Cejudo is the best threat to him other than Dodson, personally.

I also think that people like records and numbers, so expect to see an influx of overnight DJ fans if he gets that record from Anderson Silva. It will be loads of Sherbro's saying "I always was a fan of Demetrious".

Can't fool me ;)

i wish DJ played real video games so i could shit on him

I respect his abilities but the best flw means little more to me than the best bowler or dart player. Yeah I can appreciate the skill involved but it holds no significance to me

DJ is probably my favorite fighter to watch. In fact flyweights are a very exciting division IMO. I love the speed and technique that flyweights display. You can go watch the heavies plod around the cage all night, I'll be watching DJ fly around the cage.

Rooting for MM.

Cejudo is all decisions, I don't get the MM hate. Hes the most well rounded champ and he wins rematches convincingly.

If he gets the record it'll bring legitimacy to the division, and then when he eventually loses the title in emphatic fashion all the followers on here will proclaim to have always loved the exciting flyweight division. Or something like that.

I really doubt that...I do not think even surpassing anderson will lead to DJ having a notable fan base...people just largely find him uninteresting. It's like Colbert once said...he's a manilla envelope glued to a beige wall...just dull

He doesn't have the same threats as an average to bigger fighter. The small guys just don't have the same pop. So there aren't as many threats. For example, Dodson had the "one shot" power. But the threats that guys face even as high as 145 are so much greater.

Mm is a victim of his own success and a weak ass division. Benavidez is mms big win. Every other champion has that signature win. But the Dodson McCall and benavidez wins are solid, just not great. This post is the most attention I'll pay to Mm. I enjoy mma, but Mm is like the comedian who is hilarious to other comedians but not to the general public. Fighters are like Mm is awesome and they love watching him. Meanwhile I haven't been able to finish one of mms fights.

Not saying he'd have a crazy amount of fans, but there would be a cult-like hipster group who would essentially claim that they know so much about MMA because they have an appreciation for him.

Watch this space...

I'm not sure how him beating the record would bring legitimacy to the division. If Rousey broke the record would that have brought legitimacy to the WBW division?

I'm rooting for MM he seems like a super down to earth guy who just trains and fights his hardest. I saw a video of him where someone asked him what happens if he were to lose and he said same thing as if I won, go home cash the checks spend time with my family.

So it's mass that holds significance for you? Would you say Bob Sapp's fights were compelling? Hong Man Choi's?
