Going to go snowboarding for the first time in a few days and i've read you need to buy a lift ticket to go out on the slopes. If you don't they either force you to buy one or they just kick you out. I don't justify paying $40 bucks for a measly 8 hours for 1 day on the slopes. I guess I can hike up the mountain, but damn that would take a good couple hours to do. Any of you more experienced sherdoggers have any suggestions on how to enjoy a day on the slopes without having to buy a bullshit lift ticket? The resort in question is Alta Sierra in CA.

You really that poor that you're gonna hike up a couple hours to do a run that you can do in 5 minutes?

Just buy a fucking ticket...or borrow someone with a seasons pass if they'll give it to you. How the hell do you not justify paying 40 bucks to ski a mountain? If it really bothers you that much, just don't go boarding/skiing.

Ok damn dude. Seems like someone works for a ski resort.

What next? People will charge you to eat in a restaurant or sleep in a hotel next.

lost @ you've "read you need to buy a lift ticket."

will you be hitchhiking to the resort and boarding down the slopes on a lunch tray?

Duck ropes, dodge trees. Good luck, buddy.

thanks man. will do.

Why would I do that when I can do that shit at home. I'm only asking because that shit adds up at the end of the day. Gas and food. Im already borrowing my friends gear, so I saved money there. W/e though, i'll just probably pay for half the day since its my first time boarding and i'll just end up the majority of the time on my ass anyway.

And yet people still sneak into movies at the theater.

Snowboarding is expensive, but once you get some experience it's well worth any money you spend.

From my experience its pretty tough to sneak on the lifts, especially in recent years.

But i don't understand your resentment.

They provide a service, you pay for it. If you genuinely can't afford it, don't go. That's how capatalism works, right?

hahah. yeah I read they scan your ticket at the base of the lift. People have been telling me they bribed a couple of guys with beers or weed to look the other way.

$40 for snowboarding? That's a fucking deal. You really can't afford a measly $40?

At Whistler its $110.

Nah, its not the necessarily the $40, its the fact its my first time and imma just end up spending the whole day on my ass. I just don't want to feel bummed out that I wasted time and money on something im not going to do everyday. I can not go and go get fat and shitfaced at hooters during fight night, but i'd rather do something else that day.:icon_chee

To answer your question, if you're really looking to save a buck, scrounge the parking lot for any unused passes that might have been torn off heading to the car. Sometimes people put them in conspicuous places to "gift" them. Other than that offer to buy one off someone leaving for $20. Or hpp the line and hope no one notices.
If you're young enough tell them "your little bro ripped it off and the last run and he's ahead of you on this run and at the top of the hill, can i go after him? " ymmv

Well, if its your very first time I have a suggestion. Most mountains have an area for beginners. On several mountains I have been on in these areas they never scan people's passes. The first couple of times I went snowboarding I bought a pass, then spent about 3-4 hours on the bunny hill. You wont want more time than that. Since no one ever scanned my ticket it was still useable and I then sold to someone else. Free snowboarding.

This may not work for you on the mountain you are going to but it's worth a try. If its your very first time, the bunny hill is the best place anyways.

honestly it is a big waste of your time to not buy a lift ticket.. even if it is your first snowboarding experience ever.

what's more important to you, saving the $40 or actually using your day off to learn something and have fun doing it.

also if you borrowed your friend's gear.. and it isn't even the correct size board and the boots are not right for your feet.. again.. you will be miserable and it is a waste..

It doesn't hurt me.
You wanna feel how it feels?
You wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
You wanna hear about the deal I'm making?
You be running up that hill
You and me be running up that hill

Kids slope usually doesn't require a ticket. If it's your first time that's where you will be spending most of the day anyway.
