I have noticed lately i have had a few sores or skin infections come up recently. A mate at my jj gym was showing my a sore on his arm what was like a open wounded rash ( best way i can describe it ). A few weeks later i got the same thing on my head, it was above my hairline so no body noticed. Now on my arm i have 2 wounds, its like the skin has come off and it wont heal over again, it just stays open. Im guessing these wound are from grappling with other dudes at my jj club. Is there any cream i can use to cure the infection and is there anything i can do to prevent this, like diet etc. Is this common in jj or grappling.

So I cut the top of my hand last week, and it got re-opened while training on Wednesday. Since then it has seemingly started to heal, but a small amount of yellow pus has seeped into the bandage/band-aid. Should I be worried? It doesn't hurt unless I pour warm water on it in the show, and as I said it looks to be healing.

I'd have a doctor look at it if you are concerned about it.

nastayy. look up kevin randleman staff. contrast and compare. then see a doc

It's why gym owners are really adamant about cleaning their mats. You're rolling around on sweaty blue pads all day. Anything some other guy had on his whatever, you're going to have on your whatever else

Go to the doctor, obviously

Could be staph. Better consult a doctor fast. It might not look that bad on the surface but it could already be eating away the deeper layers of your skin.

that sounds scary, one of them just came up today so it doesnt seem too bad but the other is looking pretty ugly, i will definatly go to the doctor tomorrow and get it checked out.

yeah get it checked. I once thought I just had a sore foot and the swelling was due to hit in the foot. I struggled with walking and eventually decided to see the doc about my 'injury'.

Doc told me I shouldve come sooner and made me realise how much if serious issue this could be.

Turns out it was an infection from being on judo mats. In all honesty I was digusted that it even happened. Not disgusted at the infection but the fact the mats werent clean. Im all about hygene when it comes to something like this and the fact a club is potentially laxed about their mat hygene is enough to put me off going there.

Sounds like staph. I once had a major staph infection in one of my legs. I didn't get it from grappling. I got it from riding the river ride at Disney with a pair of shoes that gave me a blister.

i just looked up impetigo and it is caused by staph bacteria, so is it basicaly the same thing??

Get it checked out by a Doctor. Skin infections/fungus/bacteria/virus (whatever you want to call it) can be real contagious. You don't want to be the guy or one of the guys who is spreading this around your gym.

Secondly you don't want yours to get worse.

Have your doctor take a look at it and stay home from class until you find out what it is (from a doctor) and you are no longer going to spread it.

Get it checked.

Then invest in a product like DefenseSoap.

I use DefenseSoap every day and every time I train.

My gym is pretty clean. But we had a new guy come in who trains at multiple gyms. He was my principal training partner. He brought in a little outbreak of ringworm with him. Nobody who uses DefenseSoap was afflicted - not even me, and i rolled with the guy before it got discovered!

That's good enough proof for me.

They are also awesome supporters of the sport and (full disclosure) are stepping up to help sponsor a tourney I am organizing. They are giving free samples to every competitor!

Staph isn't as much an "open wound" as impetigo is as far as I know. At least in the way I've seen them.

Impetigo is harmless. It only causes superficial rashes. You end up looking like a freak but there's no danger to your health. You'll need antibiotics and about 2 weeks for it clear. Any creams don't really help at all from my experience.

Although a lot of these infections look VERY similar and are in many cases interchangeable appearance-wise.

Do you use Defense soap before or after training? Sounds like something I'd like to invest in.
