Off from work this week, so took some time to make my range a bit more presentable.
Made a prop for a precision 22 match I'll be hosting for some fellow goon friends, as well.
This will be the 1st stage of the match.
10 golf balls at 120 yards.
1 minute par time per shooter.
Here they are at 120 yards
Pretty easy to spot a hit, as they wrap around the bar.
A challenging enough stage, I think.
Anyways, back to the thread title.
2007, (damn that long) was the last time I practiced even a little, before that you have to jump back to the 90s.
Starting over from ground zero feels more like work than fun, but I'd like to try comping out one of my XDs, (see project Handgun thread) So I need to be able to hit something to tell if it was worth the money or not.
You can waste time and bullets listening to the voice in your head telling you, you're as good as you were, so I keep reminding myself where I'm at now:
Just a Baseline:
XD45
200grn coated lead bullet from Missouri Bullet Co.
980fps vel
15 yards.
Simple Slow Deliberate Draw. One shot each grocery bag, then each steel.
Didn't want to shoot too much, just enough to try and get some familiarity back behind the sights.
Everything felt out of sorts at first. The grip, the sights, the hold, (there was no hold).
Interesting how (after years off) something as simple as a single transition from one target to the next can cause accuracy to falter, (looking at the right target).
No real shot patterns yet, just randomness.
About the 4th mag it started to begin to feel almost familiar, a little.
Nothing special for sure.
Pretty meh, but hey its a start.
Not having to work sure is nice. Heck, with a couple more weeks off I might could start hitting stuff like a real shooter!
