Off from work this week, so took some time to make my range a bit more presentable.

Made a prop for a precision 22 match I'll be hosting for some fellow goon friends, as well.

This will be the 1st stage of the match.

10 golf balls at 120 yards.

1 minute par time per shooter.

Here they are at 120 yards

Pretty easy to spot a hit, as they wrap around the bar.

A challenging enough stage, I think.

Anyways, back to the thread title.

2007, (damn that long) was the last time I practiced even a little, before that you have to jump back to the 90s.

Starting over from ground zero feels more like work than fun, but I'd like to try comping out one of my XDs, (see project Handgun thread) So I need to be able to hit something to tell if it was worth the money or not.

You can waste time and bullets listening to the voice in your head telling you, you're as good as you were, so I keep reminding myself where I'm at now:

Just a Baseline:

XD45
200grn coated lead bullet from Missouri Bullet Co.
980fps vel

15 yards.

Simple Slow Deliberate Draw. One shot each grocery bag, then each steel.

Didn't want to shoot too much, just enough to try and get some familiarity back behind the sights.

Everything felt out of sorts at first. The grip, the sights, the hold, (there was no hold).

Interesting how (after years off) something as simple as a single transition from one target to the next can cause accuracy to falter, (looking at the right target).

No real shot patterns yet, just randomness.

About the 4th mag it started to begin to feel almost familiar, a little.

Nothing special for sure.
Pretty meh, but hey its a start.

Not having to work sure is nice. Heck, with a couple more weeks off I might could start hitting stuff like a real shooter!

Nice, wish I could set up something like that on my property...and legally shoot pistols on it.

I have to ask though, why golf balls? I understand that they can make pretty interesting rimfire targets, but personally, I would find it a great pain-in-the-ass to walk 120 yards and reset targets after a string of fire.

That said, I am pretty lazy and long range precision, even scaled down for rimfire is not my cup of tea.

Golf Balls are cheap, and its a good way to mix things up a bit.

Whenever I host one of these I try to make the stages/scenarios different.

1st one had moving targets, 2nd one had unknown distance with numbered targets. The Shooter had to roll dice to see which target to shoot, then had 5 seconds to shoot it.

Stress test yo.

Reset is good in this case, since it helps indicates hits at that distance.

2nd stage this time will be 100 yards - twelve 3 inch discs, each numbered. shooter will roll the dice for the numbered target, 5 seconds a shot, 10 shots a shooter.

3rd stage will be 20 shots prone on bullseye target, at 100 yards.

4th stage will be shooter against shooter 100 yards, 5 steel 3 inch discs one each side two golfballs in the in middle. First shooter to shoot all steel and hit his center golfball wins. Winners shoot against each other until the last one.

Winner of the accuracy stages and the winner of the speed challenge will shoot off for all the marbles.

5th stage 1 golfball 100 yards. on buzzer shoot!

every shooter pays $10.00 At the end of the match winner takes the pot. Usually around $120 to to winner.

Competitive match with constant heckling and a payout at the end.

Will try to have this one catered as well.
