Don't let anyone back you down on this one, you are not wrong.
Analyzing the movie on multiple levels both critically and commercially, we both laid out a very solid argument on why it was a well made film. Even on small matters, I feel like you can't let lazy arguments win.
I have yet to hear any reason why it's bad, and in fact it's very well made. It stays as close to the games storyline as possible. The lead is well cast and the supporting cast is all at least decent.. The fight scenes are well choreographed, all the characters are there and they all use their signature moves.
They made a genuine effort to match the backgrounds of the games stages with the sets. Every fight scene ends with a death. The last fight ends with a stage fatality. They added other story elements but kept them in the background, so they didn't interfere too much with the action.
What more did you expect from a mortal kombat movie released in 1995?
Like I mentioned a few posts back, I'm actually rewatching the movie as I type this.
One thing I want to mention is the fight choreography. The fights are quite good, especially Johnny Cage/Scorpion and Liu Kang/Reptile.
Also, the production design is fucking awesome. The way they brought Shang Tsung's island and Outworld to life is great. It's some legit A+ kind of shit.
BTW, did you ever see Mortal Kombat: Legacy? If so, what did you think of it?
