He was also so butthurt that Team America shits all over his beloved industry and political views. But he did give 8mm a good review.

Team America didn’t even shit on people’s views it just exposed/ made fun of hypocrisy and was funny

Great movie

I remember liking The One when it came out, but it got horrible reviews.

I also think Dark Tower deserves a higher score than it got.

Just Friends is 42% on RT. I love that movie. One of my go to christmas movies.

The seminal TBS classic Airborne only has a 29, but a fan rating of 60

no love for early Jack Black or Seth Green haha

"Home Alone" surprises me.

"High Tension" is my ultimate WTF tomatometer. It's one of freshest, most creative slashers in modern times, and put Alexander Aja on the map. I think it was sitting at something like 20% last time I checked. I know the twist ending is questionable, and it's a violent as fuck horror movie, and some also believe it's a bit of a rip off from some earlier Dean Koontz made for TV movie, but shit, 20%? Fuck outta here.

EDIT - I see it's risen a bit over the years.

High tension is wonderful horror film and is one of my favorites. That blond girl can act frightened as fuck

All those are pretty good but ive never seen clue. Is that really a good movie? ive never heard anyone talk about it

i honestly can’t even believe that there are adults who think MK is a quality movie.
its a good adaptation with awesome martial arts. Many like it. Its not fucking Oscar worthy but its great for what it is. Martial arts and the characters. could of been worse

TMNT is a brilliant movie in its own right. A good portion of the dialogue was way over the heads of the target audience, and the character development of Raphael and his relationship with his family is better emotionality than anything we see in modern comic book adaptations.

100% this.

I rewatched the first TMNT movie just a few years ago and was shocked not just by how well it held up, but by how good of a movie it actually is. It's really well-made. You couldn't ask for more from that one, considering the premise it's working with.

Gleaming the Cube (or on there, A Brother's Justice, wtf son) has a staggeringly low 29
The Wizard has a 26.....what about my dude Lucas w/ the powerglove tho

cmon bruh

Gleaming the Cube has 29%? That's fucking bullshit!

Man, I remember watching that movie as a kid and getting SO FUCKING INSPIRED to go ride my skateboard. The film was like a fucking skateboarding infomercial.

I'v never read them but I understand it was a much more direct adaptation of the original comics with the more adult tone.

I think your probably again talking a combination of it being an 80's style action film just as the genre was losing favour and a lot of prejudging based on the cartoon series.

One thing to remember with a lot of reviews from 25+ years ago of course is that there was a lot more elitism around that today, Blockbusters would often need to be of the abolsute top draw to get a decent review from broadsheet critcis. I would say the Lord of the Rings films acted as something of a watershed there being taken rather more seriously.

Scorpion kills sub zero in the first mk tournament. Yet they didnt even square off in the movie.

Sequel was bs also since scorpion fights younger sub zero but not out of vengeance and misunderstanding then spares him. They literally botched the best rivalry. Kung lao also makes no appearance in the sequel movie. But lets be real the best part of the sequel movie was smoke and cyrax.

yea they did butcher Scorpion and Sub Zero in the sequel.

in the animated prequel on VHS they did show some backstory on Kung Lao.

I think they wanted to focus on Liu, Cage and Sonya instead of the others in the original film. Thought they handled their individual bouts pretty well even if they were a bit short.

everyone who was responsible for the sequel needs to be banned from all filmmaking forever. It's a piece of dog shit wrapped up in bear shit and sprayed with horse shit.

It's a damn good movie, and as you say, it feels surprisingly "grown up" in its tone. There's some pretty dark shit in there.

In fact, the reason TMNT II is so light and childish in comparison is because parental groups complained about how dark and violent the first film was.

Words of wisdom my man, words of wisdom.

Too often are films getting poor reviews because they don't fall into the 'heart wrenching, slow burning sophisticated drama' subset. Some films, their entire purpose is just some fun. They don't try to be anything else, it's unfair to judge them by metrics they're not for.

For example, you can't judge a Family Movie (something like a pixar or dreamworks animation) and a Horror Movie on the same metrics, they have completely different demos and ultimately different goals.

So why pretentious prudish critics sometimes throw films under the bus for not being The Godfather or Citizen Kane is beyond me. They are capable of judging films differently, they often fawn over Marvels films. But they're far too choosey with what they will or will not give a pass to.

Damn good post, man.

I like all kinds of movie, but it's those fun, escapist films that I tend to enjoy the most and that tend get the most rewatches out of me.

You're right that every movie should be judged according to its goals. What was it trying to do and how well did it do it?

I wouldn't call it a classic or anything but I think in the same vein the 1987 Masters of the Universe(17% at RT) was actually much better than it had the right to be. Dorf isn't exactly a massive acting talent but again it had more edge to it that you'd expect with Frank Langella's Skelator being a classic villain.

I liked it and I've never been a huge Rambo fan. Thought the first one was good ignored the rest.

The first one is a real drama. When stallone flips out at the end, it shows a glimpse of his range.

In a way I kinda get it with Home Alone. If I remove the nostalgia and heartwarming Christmas atmosphere, it is pretty weird that this movie is played straight for an hour and 10 minutes and then out of fucking no where becomes a slapstick living cartoon.

That being said fuck you if you don't like it and if that score doesn't make you feel like a child on Christmas morning then you have no heart

Side note: first time I've listened to that this "holiday season". Feels good man.

Oh man, holy shit. Maximum punch to the feels with that song!

I never realized John Williams did that score.

An R-rating doesn't necessarily mean it would be a better, or more memorable movie. Look at AVP-R. People were steaming over the PG13 rating of the original. So much so, that the producers of the next film emphasized the "R" in the fucking title.

Does anyone even remember that pile of shit?
I didnt mind the movie, but i appreciated what it attempted.

They cant all be winners, mind you.

However MK did a webseries that was also better than the movie.
