Given recent events, are there still a lot of people who think that Silva's UFC MW run can be explained away by weak competition?
 
only haters were saying that anyway. now they're saying bisping beats any version of silva :D

I noticed a disturbing trend here on Sherdog, and that is, if some fighter has had or is currently having a very memorable career run against his competition it can be explained away as him fighting "cans" or "lesser" competition.
 
Posted it in another thread but I'm gonna post it here anyway:

Franklin x2, Hendo, Okami, Sonnen x2, Marquardt, Belfort, Forrest at LHW, etc are all solid wins. He didn't just beat those guys either, he made a lot of them look flat out silly. People are so fucking insatiable on here that they saw Anderson tool formidable opponents Matrix-style and still aren't impressed. It's sad.

He also had a close fight against the current MW champion in Bisping. At his age, that is fucking incredible.

All that being said, let's not get carried away. Anderson didn't get robbed in that decision. But it still says a lot that he did so well anyway.
 
As much as the new fans wanna crown a new GOAT for every division b/c they dont like a previous fighter or completely missed out on MMA when said GOAT was in their prime, fact is the runs Anderson @ MW, Fedor @ HW, Bones @ LHW, GSP @ WW, Aldo @ FW had wont be surpassed by any fighter for a long, long time.

LW doesnt have a clear GOAT ATM. Maybe RDA can pave himself a path or Khabib goes GOAT mode. BW has Dom but i dont think hes much ahead of TJ honestly who can still claim that spot in the future. Demetrious you can throw in there for FLW too but the division is still so young and hes still going strong.

I feel like TJ has some work to do to surpass Dom at BW, but otherwise agree.

I think by every measurable parameter of both a sport fight and a real fight Anderson Silva won.
 
Stephan Bonnar, WW (occasional LW) Pat Cote, Forrest "Rich Molasses" Griffin, the Michael Jordan of BJJ aka a TUF guy, the Sandman who was looking dry as sand at the weigh-ins...it wasn't the best run in the world, that's for sure.

You're leaving out some relevant fights, but I guess you're saying "yes, it was just weak competition"? It doesn't bother you that Michael f'n Bisping is champ right now?

Never liked the guy was over the moon when the Chris KO'd him , but he was a great fighter who deserves all the respect in the MMA world for what he has accomplished and what he brought to the Cage
 
anderson smashed some really tough guys like it was nothing
his destruction of henderson, franklin, griffin and bonnar were ust incredible.
