People have this idea of GSP being a coward. That he should have challenged Silva for the MW title but was too scared. I'm not of this opinion and I'm curious why it has been so widely accepted.

I believe GSP would have beat Silva at any point... Of course we'll never know.

Why didn't Silva move down to WW and beat GSP? Why was it on GSP to move up? The logic is ridiculous. Either could have made the change. Silva always had a few extra lbs that could have come off to make 170...It's not like he was 5% body fat. Look at Cowboy at 155 or Machida in his first couple fights at 185. Also McGregor is super lean at 145. If these guys can make weight, Silva could have made 170 as well.

How do you look at it? Was GSP the coward or Silva? Or were neither of them wrong for choosing not to fight?

GSP ducked him, hard. Consistently. Silva would have and still could beat him.

AS can't make 170 anymore. But he did offer to fight GSP at a catch weight tho. GSP declined.

This fight was going to happen. They have GSP cageside during the Silva-Maia fight. If it was going to happen at any point it was then. Silva fucked around and they lost interest in the fight.

That's still not ducking. AS could have gone down an fought. Also, GSP was just coming back from a major injury. Nobody expected Silva to do anything spectacular after he snapped his leg. It's not the time to be doing things out of the normal. Just getting back in the cage was impressive enough.

How do you figure?

GSP declined the fight so many times, always spoke about weight and moving about and how he wanted to gain muscle etc. Silva offered a catch weight and that still wasn't good enough for GSP. Its easy to look at a 40 year old Silva and judge but a few years ago Silva was a killer.

Conor makes GSP look bad (in the fact he will jump up to any weight for anyone)

I dont care...itnis not relevant anymore...it is like one of those fairy tales

I'm not accusing GSP of ducking just clarifying that AS wanted the fight and was ready to cut down as far as he could.

GSP accepted the catch weight. AS just talks shit.

In truth neither ducked the other since the fight was never offered for it to be declined.

I wouldn't call a legend like GSP a coward, but I feel he's the reason the fight didn't get made. He avoided Anderson.

GSP avoided the fight but really Anderson is a significantly larger guy than he is where as Anderson avoiding guys like Shogun, Rashad and Machida was avoiding matches with guys similar in size to him.

Basically I think GSP was fighting the best guys his size and Silva wasn't.

GSP didn't want the fight.

It was pretty clear that he was afraid.

As was Anderson of Jon Jones...

He was also very beatable. GSP's wrestling was on another level and his IQ was off the charts. If Silva was so confident he should have dropped to 170 and shown everyone he was P4P GOAT.

Both were willing, but neither was all that interested. No one ducked anything, but GSP haters will grasp onto any straw they can, no matter how short.

You can't duck someone in a higher weight class. And GSP did what he thought was best for his career. Could have AS of cut down to 170 again? Probably not healthily.

The only time this match was going to be made was before Anderson made a dink of himself in Dubai. GSP was sitting right there at ringside. In the end if GSP was going to compete with AS he thought it best to put on some mass. It never really materialized either.

Couldn’t even bother to read your own link? That was right before the Weidman fight. I think we all know what happened after that.
