For me, the ultimate representation of Wolverine is either John Byrne Dark Phoenix Saga Wolverine around the Hellfire Club story or Paul M. Smith Wolverine around X-Men #172 in Japan with Yukio and Rogue and fighting Silver Samurai. Paul M. Smith drew him like he's a bit older and maybe part Japanese.

This was my thought as well, and similar to how The Flash is eating his face off after a running session on the new(ish) show.
