*Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman is serving a life sentence.

*In 1993 she was arrested along with 15 others, convicted of conspiracy to sell cocaine and money laundering.
*She claims said she never actually sold drugs, instead working as a “telephone mule” passing messages between people.
*Johnson was labeled as the leader of the ring by multiple co defendants who testified against her.
*She was sentenced to life plus 25 years in federal prison.
*It was her first office.

Should Trump pardon Alice Marie Jobnson?

I like mandatory minimums.
This seems like a pretty long sentence for a first-time offender.

I would if I was pres

Yes, along with tens if not hundreds of thousands of drug offenders.

She's dishonest still about it, but it has been long enough.

I’m very unsympathetic for drug dealers, but I’m not for life in jail for first time offenders. She must’ve been involved in moving serious weight.

This wasn’t some simple user selling to friends or even low level community dealer. She was the leader of a cocaine dealing and money laundering ring.

I wouldn’t be upset if she stayed in jail. I saw nothing about her being wrongfully labeled a leader while being nothing more than a stooge, just that this was the first time she was caught

She is really underselling her role. No pardon. Commute if you want

Read: “Should Trump pardon...”

Response: Sure, why the hell not? We’re not pretending there’s a reason for shit anymore, are we?

I'm fairly unsympathetic to those who deal in hard drugs. All drugs are not created equal. That being said she's already done 25 years, If this had happened in Canada she would have been out years ago.

He commuted her sentence, which is a good thing.

However, that's a far cry from committing to criminal justice reform.

His AG is a militant prohibitionist who's in favor of tougher sentences across the board and rescinded the Obama era sentencing guidelines, which provided for lighter sentences for non-violent drug offenders, as soon as he was confirmed.

https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/12/politics/sessions-criminal-charging-memo/index.html

There are more people being placed in Alice Johnson's situation by Sessions' DOJ on a daily basis.

If Trump actually puts pressure on Sessions to pull back on harsher sentences, I'll actually give him a lot of credit.

Until then, this is another publicity stunt.

Mandatory minimums are initiated by Congress and Congress should be the one to fix it. Not a president with pen and a phone.

LOL @ completely ignoring the part of my post about sentencing guidelines.

Mandatory minimums are only one part of the mass incarceration problem.

Prosecutors have wide discretion in the types of sentences that they push for at trial or in plea deals.

The AG is a political appointment made by the POTUS, and Trump's AG is committed to having his US attorneys push for harsher sentences. Those are incontrovertible facts.

Lol they’re praising that whore skank Kardashian
