It is better to protect the general fighters rather than to make exception for the few outliers.

Just because guys like Silva, Couture could fight way past the prime age of the average doesn't mean that everyone else should be attempting that. Fighters are fighters, and they will fight long past the time they are suppose to.

Fighters past 35 years of age should not be allowed to fight, regardless of how good of fighters they are. This is to set a precedence for all the ones that shouldn't be fighting. I don't want to see ancient fighters like Shogun and Henderson fighting anymore for 2 reasons, they are not good anymore, and it is not healthy for them. They still have about 40 more years to live, don't make those years miserable with chronic pain and health problems just for a little glory.

Probably much better would be to have KO/TKO limit .

So they don't get to be paid?

Something like that would never take off all over the world. Perhaps the ufc would do it, then they'd lose guys like Silva and he would just fight in Russia or Brazil. Not gonna stop him

If you are 35 and smashing everyone you suddenly shouldn't be allowed to fight?

Floyd Jr. needs to be protected from himself, even though he has never lost a fight?

Fighters over 35 are already subjected to more strict medical requirements.

They won't get paid as much. They will learn how to make money in other ways. They are not idiots.

Yeah tell Overeem and Werdum that they actually shouldn't fight and are too old they just don't know it yet......

I don't wanna see some of them fight either but guess what don't watch their fights they are grown man and can do whatever they want

Yoel Romero is 39 years old and has only been competing in MMA since 2009.

Urijah Faber is 36 and has been competing in MMA since 2003.

............................

stupid fucking idea.

Needs to be a personal choice, not one mandated by a Sherdog Poster. By your troll standards, Werdum should vacate his title and Hunt shouldn't be allowed to continue kicking ass. Some SHOULD hang 'em up, no question. But not because you say so.

I'm thinking 90 is too old, so we could try that.

I don't hate the idea, but 35 is waaaaay too young. The mid 30s are the apex of you physical and mental primes syncing up. Those are many fighter's very best years.

I would say 45 is way more fair. Maybe even like 42. It's a really tough thing to arbitrate because it has a lot to do with how much damage you have taken in your career, as well. Anderson was great into his 40s because he didn't get hit very often until Weidman late in his career.

I think a better measure would be a limit on how many KOs you are allowed to sustain before a forced retirement.

Ufc shouldn't have to enforce something like this its on the athletic commisions to license fighters and anyways 35 is way too young.

Did you peruse the ADEA before you pitched this idea?

And lulz at 35.

I feared for Hippo in the last couple years. That man was collecting a check to be a punching bag.

I strongly disagree with this, So Werdum should be stopped? c'mon dude.

Age is truly a number, and while most fighters are done by their mid-30s it totally depends. Some guys like Melvin Guillard were practically punch drunk and washed up by 29 while guys like Anderson Silva are still top 5's at 40+

Age limit is stupid, you won't accomplish anything. Imo, if you lose 4 in a row, you should get cut, unless its a special exception like if one of those fights is for a title.

Lol well maybe for guys like Ken Shamrock who is over 50 and gets KO'd pretty much every fight. Or do you mean just UFC fighters

That's called Ageism and it wouild be illegal according anti descrimination laws. If that would happen, some of the greatest fighters of all time, wouldn't have had some of their most memorable fights. And you can't say when someones past their prime. Everyone ages vastly different.

No there should be no age limit. Look at George Foreman in his 50's, was knocking dudes out cold.

You can't have an age limit on anything. That would fall under discrimination laws, which is highly illegal. Only if medical tests showed they were in danger. only then. A man made number should not dictate what someone can or cannot do.
