Should The Lopez Fight Have Been Stopped?

He couldn't stand straight, was bleeding profusely, and it was just a matter of time before Diego would have landed an uppercut from hell.

I don’t like stoppages like that. He should’ve let him bang to the point Silva doesn’t act like a tough guy robbed afterwards.

That fight would still be going then

Who is talking about spreadsheets? If you have watched enough fights and are familiar with some fighters ability to take punishment, then you know. There are refs that know the fighters, so they ref accordingly.

You act like refs that ref UFC fights only ref UFC fights.

I felt it was a little crappy because he'd been through that crazy round 1 and there were 20 seconds left in the round, plus he'd been handily winning the round. But on the replay I think it was good because I don't see how he was getting out, being hurt and with the position Diego had. Looked like he'd take a lot of damage in the next 20 seconds if the ref didn't step in. Yeh he defended himself somewhat and got out in round 1, but he wasn't already rocked then.

I was rooting for Jean and he's probably so crazy the guy would've found a way back.

But it's fair, he already had his 2nd chance after getting mounted. It wasn't the worst stoppage.

Part of me wishes they had a 5 round Bigfoot Hunt type fight though.
I need to go rewatch that fight, its been a few years. Good ol FuelTV

Honestly, im happy it was stopped, say what you want if it should or shouldn't have been stopped, its whatever for me personally, but im happy it was stopped because Silva needs to learn that not every guy hes fighting is some bottom feeder that he can just run over, vs some guys you have to be measured and stick to a game plan.

Lets just be completely honest and non bias folks, Silva was whooping Lopes ass on the feet, before that elbow by Lopez, it was looking reeeeaaaaall shaky for Lopes, dude was eating big shots and a lot of them. All Silva had to do was chill on the feet and do what he was doing, instead he started showing 0 respect to Lopes, running around with his hands down, and ate an elbow. Props to Lopes, im honestly a bit shocked every time he wins because of how he fights, he looks like Chris Leben combined with Korean Zombie with Damian Maia's bjj all in one. His striking is super slow and sloppy, but hes creative with it and it somehow works, until he runs into someone who fights smart and sticks to their gameplan (like Volk).

It was a really fun fight to watch by 2 guys who are for sure fan favorites so its a W no matter who won, but both guys need to work on their game if they want to be champions, eating shots all fight and hoping for some spinning shit will only take you so far, and on the other side doing your best impressions of Conor McGregor just without the accolades will probably keep you closer to the gate keeper/fan favorite role than a championship belt.

The subjective stoppages are killing the sport for me. Every event a guy gets beaten senseless way after the fight is over, and then it seems other fights get stopped when a guy is rocked.

You’re not allowed to be rocked anymore.

Yes, Silva was on the ground a bloody mess and taking an absolute pounding lol

the back shots was almost like Oliveira x Chandler 2

but bizarre how Prates and Jean (the nerds) lost because they didn't obey the game plan

while the corner was saying to Prates to hurry and go for it, he was too patient

and the corner said to Jean to be calm, that he doesn't even needed to win the second round, and he was rushing like a bar fight when got caught
to be fair to mr silva, if u get elbowed like that in the first, ur probably not in a condition to play ur most brilliant chess

Was definitely not a robbery, however during the fight & watching the replays, Silva had just posted his hand to try & get up right before it was stopped.

It's a tough call in the heat of the moment, teh Ref's decision was obviously made before Silva posted that hand. In hindsite I do think it could've been able to go longer, but even that posting of the hand was a little half assed & he was going to continue to get pounded.

It was just bad reffing. There were shots to the back of the head and the stoppage itself was a tad early.

You gotta let high level fights play out.
I looked at the replay but I don't think there was an egregious back of the head shot situation

The area protected by that rule is pretty small and is just the width of the spine basically. Lopes was clubbing him on the ear, some of the shots were borderline and maybe a couple crossed over into illegal but again, with all the scrambling movement that stuff happens

It's not like Chandler-Oliveira 2 with a million hammerfists directly in the illegal area or like Gane-Tuivasa where he threw 100% power sledgehammer onto the back of the head
