OSU lost their division to Penn State and lost to Penn State in the regular season. OSU is 11-1 and Penn State is 10-2. In conference both are 8-1. Wisconsin plays Penn State in the big 10 championship next weekend while OSU sits out. If Penn State beats Wisconsin I feel like theres no question Penn State should be in and OSU should be ineligible.

Anyone else agree that you should have to win your conference to be eligible for the college playoffs? It seems like utter bullshit because the media is all up in arms about OSU making it despite losing their conference (and even lost their division.)

Absolutely. They have 3 wins over teams currently in the top 10 (2 on the road). All of the computer rankings that were part of the BCS have them at #2.

That's why conference championships are just one of several criteria the committee uses to decide the playoff teams. I think winning your conference should almost be a prerequisite, but I also think OSU beats Penn State 7/10 times if they play with current rosters.

if osu gets in and penn state won the big 10 do you guys think the comittee should be required to put both in the playoffs instead of just osu since one won the conference? id rather see washington out and penn and osu in but i absolutely cant stand the idea of osu getting in without penn state getting in IMO it just makes even bothering to have conferences and division inane.

Whatever way it comes out there will be arguments either way. Technically Penn State tied Ohio State for the division but held the tiebreaker. OSU didn't lose to Pitt like Penn State and Clemson. Does one loss by three points at Penn State mean more than Washington's 13 point loss to USC at home or Clemson's 1 point loss to Pitt at home? Another consideration is did you win the games you were supposed to win? Strength of schedule is another consideration It all makes for interesting conversation.

Penn St had a bye week before the Ohio State game. Ohio State beat Wisconsin the week before in OT, and, lets face it, they thought the PSU game would be easy. Nobody was taking PSU seriously at that time. M****gan stomped them, Pitt beat them, and they barely got by Minnesota and Temple. I have to hand it to PSU though. No team in the country improved as much as them during the season.

Yes but I'd like to see an 8 team playoff with USC in it.

Iowa went from losing to North Dakota St and Northwestern, to beating Michigan and Nebraska.

Absolutely not. The committee should stick to their criteria of conference championships and be done with it. Solution to the OSU issue: don't lose games you're suppose to win. You lost and now you're shutout of your own conference's championship game. There are only four spots that will go to more deserving teams who win their conference championships so tough shit, deal with it and earn your way back next season.

That's why there should be a field of 6-8 teams. It's a perfect amount of teams to decide the national championship. It's not that fucking hard but this is division I (fbs) football we're talking about here. They still are 40 years behind FCS and other college sports when it comes to playoff formats.

The Big 12 will always be out of it then and Notre Dame. Well, Notre Dame being out of it makes sense.

Plus, when it comes to the TS's statement, PSU can have two bad weeks and get in?

It's a tough spot to be in for sure. OSU's win over a very good Michigan team should earn them a spot. However, a conference champ with two losses has got in before(LSU bcs era)and will likely earn Penn a spot. Someone is getting snubbed as usual. What happens if both Clemson and Washington win their respective conferences? Should they both get in over OSU?

You could argue that Michigan does too since they have 3 wins over current top 10 teams (although Colorado will probably move out if they lose to Washington). The 1 point loss at Iowa isn't bad now since they're 8-4 and #22 in the AP poll.

Big 12 championship game is coming back in 2017

Under the 4 team format, Independents should make it if they run the table or if conference teams are having a shitty year. 6-8 team format a 1-2 loss independent gets in easy.

LSU got in because of all the crazy stuff that happened that final weekend of the season.

#1 Missouri: lost to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game for their second loss
#2 West Virginia: lost to 3-8 Pittsburgh for their second loss
#3 Ohio State: idle
#4 Georgia: idle
#5 Kansas: idle
#6 Virginia Tech: beat Boston College to win the ACC
#7 LSU: beat Tennessee to win the SEC

OSU jumped to #1 because of only having 1 loss and LSU jumped to #2 because they killled VT earlier in the season and had a better resume than both UG and UK.
Anyhoo, that was under the old system and is irrelevant. The bottom line is OSU is in. 3 top 10 wins (2 on the road) and their loss was @ another top 10 school who was coming off a bye week by 3 or 4 points.

You don't win your conference you don't deserve to get in

They should have killed Penn State, they didn't, they lost and that's their fault.

im really in favor of atleast a 6 team playoff (8 would be better ).

4 isn't good enough imo.

Even if they have 3 current top 10 wins?

What if they're not in a conference?
