So right now I have a 75lb white Shepard who's about 1 1/2 years old. She's an awesome dog and gets plenty of exercise. I have a huge off leash dog park next to my house where I take her twice a day. Thing is she wants to play 24/7 and if left home alone for too long (4+ hours) she starts getting into bad stuff. People keep telling me that two dogs are better because they keep each other occupied. Anyone have any insight into this? I mean it makes sense but another dog is a big responsibility. I would probably get a greyhound. Any thoughts sherbros?

Yes. A dog is man's best friend. A dog's best friend is another dog.

Make sure your dog is ok with the new dog before buying it

Also prepare for jealousy

This is what I'm worried about. I don't have the time to dedicate to training another puppy so I'd get one at least a year and a half old. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. My dog does real well when other dogs come over for short time periods

I only buy puppies so I can raise them correctly so I cant help you. Your dog might not respond well to you loving another dog. He/she could get depressed or even aggressive with the other dog if you dont find the right match.

Good luck.

Maybe try fostering a rescue dog for awhile? Its win-win - you get to test out if your dog can handle the change, and the foster dog gets an owner who clearly loves dogs. Even if its only short term. If it doesn't work out and your dog has some behavioral issues then you can return the dog to the foster program so it has the opportunity to find its right home :)

If you find a dog of similar age and temperament, they might become best buds and bonded for life - what a wonderful result for both of them.

The other cautionary point is that if you do get another dog, it is very possible your current dogs behaviors towards other dogs (at the park or wherever) may change significantly. Often negatively. Read up on that - its a commonly reported phenomena.
