Because weight cutting isnt going anywhere. Its here to stay and the vast majority of fighters make weight safely.
When they made weigh ins 24 hours earlier, that was them deciding that weight cutting is okay.

I think someone behind the scenes is trying to make sure Khabib doesn't fight at all or fights only for a guaranteed LW shot, which, even with precedents, could only be ensured f both guys made LW.
